From Govolsxtra:

Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge’s recovery time could be a lot shorter than expected after he underwent successful surgery on a partially torn meniscus Monday.

Doctors were forced to remove torn meniscus cartilage in his right knee, which means that Ainge’s rehabilitation time is expected to be between three and six weeks.

Actually, the reason it is a shorter recovery is because it was a different procedure. As the article stated, they had to remove the meniscus cartilage because it was an old tear. Better short term, but not long term.

long term, all it should affect is his mobility, which wasn't that great to start with. so, i dont see a downside to what they did.

what could they have done better for his long term?

only thing they could have done was to repair the meniscus, but obviously the doctors saw that it wasn't repairable once they got in there so, they just took it out. repairing it would have helped his long-term mobility, but made his rehab. time much longer.

Sounds good to me. It looks like Ainge will be able to work with the receivers all summer and get their timing down. This is a must, with all the new receivers, for our offense to run smoothly early next season.

There's a link to the article up on the Volnation Home page. The trainer said he would be back to full activity in 3-6 weeks.

It's not expected to impact the coming football season.

Sounsd like a good prognosis. From what I gather they just trimmed the edges to reshape the meniscus as there were no loose pieces.

Here you go

KNOXVILLE --“Fantastic news, absolutely fantastic news,” Fulmer said of the procedure, which removed torn meniscus cartilage from the senior’s right knee. “It couldn’t have turned out any better. Obviously, he is very pleased, his parents and doctors are very pleased, we’re happy.

“It wasn’t a very big tear and it wasn’t a trauma to the knee. The knee was in great shape. It was what we thought it was -- wear and tear and not any one incident. So we don’t have any floating particles, chips or anything of that nature in there. The surgery turned out better than we even could have thought.
