News Conference Tomorrow at Tennessee-Rumor

Apparently a local newsperson tweets random and false info, surprised she hasn't removed it. Basilio sent a few tweets out today as if it were done, just random tweets with nothing to back it up and won't respond when I sent message asking where he got info

I seen that. Rick Byrd not being interested is not news. The guy aint leaving for any school.

maybe they learned a thing or two when the Kiffin stuff went down and this will be released later? Possible

Makes sense and would be brilliant, almost too brilliant. Could release after Pearl rally so news doesn't get out with a raucous crowd assembled. Would applaud the athletic dept if they did that, don't address media until introducing new coach

Nobody is bigger than the sport, or the college, or the team. But Pearl took us from a mediocre team to one of competing. The slow bleed this year due to this personal failing and the constant reminder by every tv game broadcaster has made it nearly impossible for him to continue. We will survive this one way or the other, but its a shame, and it will be a long time undoing the damage if Pearl is gone..

Rucker insists he is unbiased in this but has written multiple columns about players leaving and keeps tweeting it, yet apparently didn't ask players what they would do if Pearl was suspended a year or 2 or on probation. How can one do an interview and not ask those things are even mention those possibilities in article. Climer wrote a good price detailing possible scenarios and the risk UT runs in keeping Pearl. I can't for the life of me figure out why Knox media acts like this is as simple as they make it out to be.

I don't know how large that Pearl rally is going to be but I'd be shocked if more than 100 people showed up. I've seen it on twitter a couple of times and facebook a few but besides that, not much. Not saying hundreds won't show up and set the building on fire lol. But if I was going to kick Pearl to the curb, I'd do it silently. It also makes me suspicious because Lori Tucker has been on Wate for a long time now. With things being so touchy right now, no way she post this without having some kind of confirmation. She still hasn't deleted it and she doesn't even work the weekend shift, which tells me she definantly heard it from her husband. He could know, freelancing for ESPN and Jefferson Pilot Sports.

Fire Hamilton, Keep Pearl and put him on a University last warning probation. Tennessee wont get another coach the caliber of Pearl. If they fire Pearl that program goes right back down the toilet.

Keep Pearl, and then lose him to a 2 yr suspension and still lose Pearl even when you keep him. haha. Been discussed and wont happen

It's not like Pearl set the world on fire this year. With a pair of McDonald's All-Americans in the starting lineup, we went 19-15, finished 5th in the SEC East, and set a new record for the worst loss in an 8 vs. 9 game in NCAA tournament history.

I agree but even the most loyal can't keep Pearl. It's just not possible. You lose him regardless.

Thing is, if UT were doing it quietly, surely they would have told people(photogs) to keep quiet.

He also led the Vols to an Elite 8 (for the first time ever) and like 6-7 straight NCAA Tourney appearances. What exactly did guys like Green, Buzz, O'Neil or Houston ever do? Tennessee has never been an "Elite" basketball school but Pearl has taken them from the laughing stock team to a legit contender. If you only want to judge Pearl on what he done this year then you should also fire Roy Williams and Jim Calhoun for leading their teams to the NIT last year.

I don't disagree - but we need to remember that a presser is not required, And in this case, may not be preferred for several reasons, including:

1. Hammy comes off much better in writing, where his words can be better crafted and weighed.

2. Won't have similiarly strained emotions by the players as those when Fulmer was fired.

3. Neither Bruce nor anyone else has to answer questions via a press release.

4. Don't think that UT - and especially Hammy - want the images of a fired Pearl on camera, and being looped on every major media outlet for the next few days (at least).

A press release would be like a band-aid, get all of the pain over quick. And move on.

So who coaches while he serves his 1 or 2 year suspension?

I seem to remember going to 4 straight NCAA tournaments at the turn of the millennium. While being coached by an absolute moron.

And this isn't about this season's results.

Green went to the Sweet 16. When Mears coached, the tournament was only 32 teams, so making the tournament back then usually required winning the SEC.

Tennessee isn't Kentucky in basketball, but those who claim it was never any good pre-Pearl are lost.

and not once were they considered a legit threat.

Who's to say he's going to even be suspended? Especially for that long. At least find out whats going to happen before you fire a guy.

lol. The avy gave you away!!!!

No but really, the band aid theory is a correct one. A press release is much better than a news conference.

Of the last 20 coaches to be charged with unethical conduct, the NCAA levied show-cause orders of 2 years or longer on 19 of them. In all of those cases, the coaches lied to the NCAA just like Pearl.
