New Year's Resolution: No More Music City Bowl (Ever)

1. Awful field/stadium.
2. If you're there, you suck (our defense sucked).
3. No upside, only downside, playing Big-10 middling teams.
4. It's no reward to play in Nashville in the winter.

Recommendation: If we're in running for Music City, lobby to go out west for a change of scenery.

I agree. Even if gas were to go to 10.00 a gallon? If I were to consider making a bowl trip, Nashville just isn't my scene. A trip to Jacksonville, Charlotte, Orlando, or even Memphis has more appeal TO ME. As to the facilities, I have toured that stadium once or twice. But have not been there for a game. It's a good stadium, IMO. But yeah, field conditions on a few occasions? That needs work.

But a bowl game, to me, is like a mini three day vacation. Not a day trip, and go home. Kind of like kissing your sister.

And while I know Nashville has great restaurants, good accomodations and some decent entertainment options (if you are into that kinda thing?) If I were to attend the MCB? I might eat there twice, I would drive home, and avoid the entertainment stuff there completely. I never listen to country music, so that is more of a reason for me not to go than to go.

But the real reason I would avoid the MCB? Officiating. Vols have gotten screwed over twice in the past 25 years Almost like a home field disadvantage. I am not going to say there is "no reward" to play in any bowl game. Plenty of folks work hard to make it a good time for the fans attending, wherever it is played, and I am not going to insult their efforts. But from now on? I hope the bowls make sure they have competent officiating. In about thirty years? I might feel different about accepting an invite to that one. But fr now? I feel the Vols are jinxed there.

Let's build it where Opryland was and bring back chaos and the grizzly river rampage and the Walbash cannonball
Damn I miss home

Meaningless? Interesting. Meaningless to whom? No upside? Again. For who? It always amuses me when someone with no skin in the game calls it meaningless. Tell that to a senior who has never been in a bowl game. Or a senior playing his last game with his team. Is it meaningless to a team that’s up and coming and finally reached that bowl eligible mark for the first time in years, or ever? Or a team that is finally starting to come together and needs those extra practices? Granted, Tennessee is a larger program that should never settle but there are plenty of examples to say that these games mean plenty…to those who matter most. It’s laughable to see fans that may or may not attend, consume hot dogs and beer all game, say it’s a waste of time about a team that’s invested more than most of us could even imagine and are happy for that last opportunity either of the year or their career.

Sorry for the rant but I see this said a lot and today it set me off a little.
I saw this topic in an earlier thread, but I wasn't a member yet and couldn't respond. It has become the "cool" thing to call bowl games meaningless, and it's a good idea for seniors who may be potential draft picks to "opt out." The basic narrative is that now that we have a playoff, all other bowl games are meaningless. By that argument, once it is clear that your team is no longer in contention for the playoff, all games from that point forward are meaningless?? At what point should players decide to start opting out? For example, after our Florida loss essentially eliminated us from playoff contention, games from that point forward really didn't matter, and seniors should consider packing it in.

A couple of things.
Where would you build it that would come close to it's present spot? Very unique being able to walk from downtown or drive and park either one. Many people like to walk from the "fun" and hotel rooms to the game.
Now cost. If you think the increase in renovation expense is out of line, just wait until you see the cost for a new place. Just ask anyone in the construction industry what is going on with pricing. I also expect it will be very hard to convince voters to go along with public funds being forced on the tax burden this time around.
Oh yeah,,,, what the hell will you do with the stadium now in place? Play a hockey game every once in awhile, a high school game now and then, the ethnic game or two a season, a entertainment (won't call them music) show or two a year. The only thing to do would be to tear it down (that will be expensive). No just renovate if it is really necessary.

Seems like there is a simple solution that would satisfy many. Relocate the Titans to St. Louis.
Done. Simple. Problem solved. St Louis Titans has a nice ring to it, eh?

That was was best bowl Tennessee qualified for. I hate that the last 2 times there the Vols got screwed of bad calls but it’s still a good bowl and great that it was a sell out.

I think/hope you jest. However looking at this over the last few years, I don't think it's a jest on the part of the Titans. Now with this stadium BS, I think it's maybe a plan by the team ownership all along. Maybe not St. Louis but somewhere. No problem for a team to demand a new stadium (it's done all the time) and say "well we will just move" if they don't get what they want.

Yep, that’s the way it’s done. This team dumped Houston for Tennessee. They can surely do it again.
