New wrinkles I would like to see this week

and please they are not hard to learn either.
1. Have some plays where Dobbs lines up behind center and we run right out of the I formation. On goal line plays on offense once again line up behind center at least they will have to defend the sneak and we aren't at the 4 yard line before we start a play. Dobbs has to be utilized in the running game and we have to take shots downfield using our big receivers. Also mix John Kelly in a few plays in the running game. A few defensive thoughts later when I get home. GBO!!!!!

I am sure by now after almost everyone in the State of Tennessee has asked for an I formation with Hurd that Jones has heard this by now. He must be too hard headed to try it out. And for the love of everything holy can we line up under center for once at the goal line?

The most effective wrinkle would be solid O line play... and that would be considered a wrinkle to this offense based on the first three games.

I don't see what the hell they see in PRESTON WILLIAMS!! DROPPING PASSES AND ****..NEED TO PLAY JUAN JENNINGS MORE OR PLAY BRANDON JOHNSON OR CALLAWAY...GOD FORBID IF MALONE GO DOWN I KNOW BRANDON WILL BE READY TO TAKE OVER..

Actually yes. We are all waiting for them to gel. It's a matter of game time I would think. The more they play the better they will get. They will have to be a certain threshold of consistency before we start throwing more plays out there though.

I liked getting Croom involved last week. It was looking pretty good, he's got good hands and is a big target. Maybe line Kamara up on the outside for the reverse. Kongbo at fulllback in the power I on the goal line.

1. Move the pocket/roll Dobbs out of the pocket to limit his reads to a single side of the field and use his athletic ability.

2. Give Josh Malone more chances to make plays in 1-on-1 situations against a CB.

3. Take shots down the field in obvious running situations (particularly 2nd and short).

4. Throw quick slants over the middle and get the TEs involved in passes over the middle.

5. Quit running Hurd almost exclusively off tackle. Get him (and Kamara) the ball with some delayed handoffs designed to go up the middle.

6. Bring Kamara on the field in situations where he isn't going to get the ball/plays that aren't designed to get the ball. It seems like every time he is brought on the play is designed exclusively for him and it is so obvious.

Things that have puzzled me this year:
1a) Why haven't we gone to that I-formation yet. It worked so well against NW.
1b) Where is the two back formation ? DeBord and RBs talked about the deadly Hurd, Kamara and Dobbs threat. Havent seen it quite yet.
2) Why has Defensive line and defense as a whole regressed ? Not saying they are bad but they were supposed to be better than last year with a million dollar upgrade we made at DC.
3) Why has offensive line gone horrible ? Not starting rumors but is there lack of chemistry there ? This unit was good in run game and serviceable in pass protection last year. We return most same pieces.
4) Why are secondaries so bad except Sutton. just horrible in fundamentals itself. Guys that have been in system for 3 years getting beat on simple routes.
5) Butch has recruited a lot of high profile kids and has a lot of talent upfront, but where is the depth at MLB, ILB, CB ? Where is the LB development ?
6) Special teams are missing their charm from last year. Is it Mark Edler factor ?
7) WRs ? 1000 questions there. Only good one to ask, why does Azzani still have a job after high profile guys like Pearson, North etc were busts and we have't gotten any production of quality from other 4-5*s ? Other teams have QBs with 'not so good' arms. They still manage to get good production from WRs based on
a) Short hitches, slants etc and good yards after catch numbers
b) Design creative routes off play action where WR is wide open and QB can hit them easy.
8) Medley can not make FGs greater than 40 yards out. Why do we keep asking him to kick 45+ yarders. We are better off trying the 4th down or just punting to get a good position.

Everything you said here is spot on.....but #6 just drives me crazy. You'd think this is middle-school football or MAC or something.

No thanks...whenever he has tried to throw on the run this year he has thrown back across the field and forced bad throws.

If memory serves, those have been on plays where the pass protection broke down and he has had to leave the pocket due to pressure. I'm talking about calling plays that are designed to get him moving and throwing to WRs running routes in conjunction with the direction he is moving.

1- Hitches looked good this week- run slants, drags, and quick outs to WR's. UT has to start making LB's work harder in pass coverage.
2- Run AND pass out of the offset I. Hurd has proven he's very good running down hill out of the I. UT really hasn't run much PA off that formation since installing it last year. Now is the time. if they go max protect and send a couple of WR's deep or use the pattern that Spurrier used to kill UT with where 3 or 4 guys just run straight up the seams then I think UT will not only have success but force UF to play back which opens up run lanes.
3- You have to beat man coverage consistently. You can't allow UF to play man on the outside because then they can load up against the run.
4- Forget screens until you actually have them set up. If you aren't hitting passes behind the LB's to make them drop then you aren't going to create enough space to run screens. Of course screens work much better when the OL doesn't let a 3 or 4 man rush get to the QB.


Bonus- I've seen teams run a triple option look out of the pistol formation with a WR in motion. I think ASU ran it a few times. UT seems to have near ideal personnel to run that play. Hurd on the dive then Dobbs with a pitch option to either Kamara or Byrd on the edge.

In the Ohio game one of the announcers mentioned that we might see the I formation this week against Florida. I sparked hope that we have been holding back some of the play book for SEC competition. One can hope. :unsure:

All good suggestions.

I wish Debord would watch Louisville's game film from this past weekend and figure out how they create mismatches and utilize a running QB.

Unfortunately DeBord doesn't know what he doesn't know.

Thanks for all the smart arse wrinkle responses, I was in a hurry this morning and just put in the first thing that came to mind. I guess I should expect it from some in this crowd, of course everyone has said many of the same things for that matter on many subjects here, many things are said NAUSEUM on here that I could complain about. Maybe now I will. LOL!!! GBO!!!!!!

Spot on stuff. Need to get the Florida linebackers on their heels early. If we can't establish a passing game Davis and Anzalone will have a field day.

I would really like to see some 22 personnel and go heavy tempo as well. Having Kamara and Croom gives us great versatility and can create mismatches without them being able to substitute.

I would like to see the WRs put some more effort into actually catching the ball. Preston can't complete the catch when going to the ground and Malone let's a guy knock the ball out of his hands after a TD while OSU had a guy make a single handed catch against the DB's back. Hold onto the ball until you give it to the official, don't let the defender or the ground knock it out and there won't be anything for the officials to review
