New Weight Room News and Picture

I'm kinda nervous when i saw this ''The original plans prepared while Phillip Fulmer was coach called for a 19,000-square-foot, two-story weight room. Dooley, however, wanted a single-story weight room that would be across from the locker rooms, which are also getting a bump in size''

so they are letting Dooley choose how big it will be and he hasn't even coached a game? I hope this works out

Fulmer and Johnny Long had a hand in the original plans. The upstairs was going to be a Cardio "theatre". Kiffin and Ausmus made some changes to the design, still keeping the two story theme. When Dooley got here and brought on Wiley, they made changes that adapted to their "style" and to the functionality.

I believe that there were some concerns as to functionality of the 2 story design.

They should add beds and food so our players can eat, sleep, and workout everyday. I think the long term results will outweigh the negatives :p

Wow....that's going to be an impressive facility. It should be for $200/sq ft, which is extremely high for building cost, even for a luxurious home.

Have to wonder if the cost of workout equipment is included in that cost. It's not a luxury home. It is a gym.

It shows in the article that $700,000 of that money is allocated for the equipment.

I order from the same rep as UT. That stuff is not cheap. It is all custom. To have enough so that you can have that many athletes work out with waiting in lines, it is a hefty price.

Some ppl on TOS are so ignorant to the spending and raising of money at on the Atheletic side of the University.

I can't even go read the comments anymore because their ignorant comments just piss me off.

" I cant believe they are spending this money when the school could use it," or "here we go again, how are they going to pay for this, by hiking up tuition!?"

I mean really people, are you that stupid? It says in the article that this is all being payed for by private donations, gifts, and fund raising. None, I repeat, NONE of this money is coming from or would have gone to the University of Tennessee Academics Department.

Rich people donate their money because they love the sports, if they loved the academics side, than I am sure they would donate money there.

You dont hear any sports fans complaining that the Academics side is spending money yet again on some other big building full of classrooms and that all of the teachers are getting raises or that every student gets a laptop to use in class.

No, you don't, because we have the sense to know, (well most of us) that the Atheletics Department raises its own funds for every project, never takes any money from the State that it doesn't pay back with interest, and also donates millions of dollars every year to the Academic side because without UT there wouldn't be UTSPORTS....

These ppl really need to grow up and quit bi***ing... They sound like a bunch of old, whiney femenists with a porcupine shoved up their "woman areas".

Most of them probably arent even students or alumni of UT and they just hover around looking for someone to complain to about things. Like other people spending their own money on what they want and not being told to spend it somewhere else that these "feme-complainers" tell them to.

While I don't disagree with your overall point, the reason why no one complains about the above is at least partly because it doesn't ever happen.

Why does Coach Dooley want to have an unathletic pasty white kid hanging around?

Change Order?? Hate those words!!

I guess its all relative to the market, material supply and labor rates, but $200psf in a structural steel environment (not wood frame like a house) is not a ridiculously expensive number...at least not up here in the land of yankees where everything costs twice what its worth. :)
