Do you know if you can get this into rainlendar?

I have not used Rainlendar, but I took a quick look at its homepage, and there's good news and bad news. The good news is that it says it supports the "standard iCalendar format," which is exactly what this is. (I generate it in iCal on my own Mac desktop.) The bad news is that subscribing to shared calendars appears to be a "pro only" feature, which I assume means you'd have to pay for it.

Interesting looking app, though.

Yea, I have the free version and like it a lot. Very helpful where it is there on your desktop. Thanks anyways.

I got tired of wishing somebody else would set this up, so I went ahead and did it myself. I've set up a publicly accessible web calendar for UT sports that includes football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball schedules. It includes future schedules as far out as we have them; it will be updated with game times and TV networks as they become available. It will include things like signing day, the start of spring practice, and the O&W game, as well as other things of interest that might pop up -- for example, if it had been set up last year, I probably would have added the women's softball championships once it became obvious that our girls would be playing for a championship on ESPN. That sort of thing. My aim for it is to include everything that you, the UT fan, might care to know about.

The point of this kind of a calendar is that you can "subscribe" to it in your calendar application of choice -- Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar, etc. -- and then from then on, everything in it automatically shows up in your own calendar. Even better, you then sync your Blaker-style smartphone or PDA with that application, and presto, now you're carrying around the schedules for all our teams with you all the time. Including not only this year's football schedule, but next year's. And future dates all the way out, like that September 9, 2017 game we've got scheduled in Neyland against Nebraska. I'll update game times and TV information as it becomes available, since I tend to be obsessive about that sort of thing, so when you're sitting there in September wondering whether the Alabama game in late October is going to be at night, you can pull out your cell phone, see that it still says "All Day" for that game, and be confident that it hasn't been determined yet.

Clearly, some drone in UT's sports information department ought to be doing this, but nobody is. So now I am. And I figure that this is something that might interest other UT fans as well. I hope somebody else finds it useful too. Suggestions are more than welcome; if you find this useful, please let me know what else I should include in it.

--------------------------------

The address for the calendar is:
webcal://icalx.com/public/apc878/Tennessee%20Volunteers%20sports.ics

That's what you paste into your calendar application. It's trivially easy in Google Calendar or Mac OS X's iCal; I'm no longer an Outlook user, but apparently it's just as easy to do in the latest version of Outlook. If you use Outlook 2003, you can install a free Outlook plug-in and do the same thing. (I tested it on my wife's laptop; takes about 10 minutes, and you have to install a couple of Microsoft Office updates as well, but it's pretty easy and it works fine.) If you'd like to try this out and need some guidance setting it up, by all means let me know.

Vercie; I think there is a problem with this.

Anyone else having update/setup issues?

I can get it to add to my google calendar (using http or webcal) - but then it says "could not fetch the url" and removes it.

I'll have to try it on iCal when I get home from work (if I'm not busy drinking green beer that is...)

EDIT - Nevermind - i just got it to work after the 5th time I tried. It works with webcal at the beginning...

Thanks a lot!!

No worries, I got it to work after removing and installing a couple of times. Must have copied an inadvertent space in the url or something.

Glad it's working. One potential problem is the %20 things in the address, which represent spaces. Make sure those look exactly like they do in the address, with no extra spaces.

Updates are working -- final scores? Game times (e.g., the game on Friday should now be in there)?

The updates are working for me.

The Friday game is not showing up at the correct game time for me. Other than that, everything looks great.

Thanks again for this. It is awesome.

I just updated it about an hour ago when I saw the game time. Your calendar probably just does one refresh a day or so, so it'll come down next time it does.

Good that it's working. Did anybody ever get it working in Outlook 2003 with that convoluted plug-in?

Any idea if this will work in Lotus Notes?

Wow. It's been awhile since I had to do any support for Notes. Surprisingly, it looks like it might:

cfguy

Looks like you have to download a plugin from IBM here, install it, and then follow the directions to "add your Google calendar entries to Notes." You might try it with both the webcal:// and http:// prefixes. Let me know if it works!

Believe me, if I had a choice at work I would NOT use Notes. I hate it.

If anybody's still using this calendar, I just realized that Apple's ludicrously-named "MobileMe" update has broken the old address at which it was located. Easiest thing to do is for me to just host it myself through my .Mac account, I guess. Here's the new address:

webcal://ical.me.com/andrew_coleman/Vols_Sports.ics

(or you may have to use http:// instead, as Vader discovered up thread.)

This calendar has already been updated to include the games of the 2010 season and some game times for the upgaming 2008 season, by the way.

Thanks for sharing your calendar, Vercingetorix. :hi:

Very cool.

I still can't get this to work. I'm running Office Outlook 2003 sp3 on a PC. If anyone has the quick-fix to make this work that'd be great.

I wish I could offer some advice, but Outlook 2003 just apparently does not play well with internet Calendars. I got it to work on my wife's computer with the plug-in I linked to up in the first post of this thread, but since it required me to install at least two Microsoft database updates, I'm not surprised that it's not exactly a foolproof process. Other than Googling around for "outlook 2003 subscribe calendars" (which I just did, without finding much), I don't have much to suggest.

Just added it to Google calendar. Pretty cool. WIsh I could change the pages to UT colors.

You can change any Google calendar's color, can't you? Just click the drop-down arrow and pick a different color or something?

I got the calendar to import into google calendar using both the webcal and http addresses, the only problem is that there is no men's or women's basketball... am I missing something?

Basketball schedules aren't out yet for next season. I'll add them when they are, and when I do, they'll just show up in your calendar.
