This is wrong.

There is some truth to the 1080p comment, though you'd be stupid to buy anything less at this point in the game. All I watch are bluray anyway.

Does satellite broadcast in 1080p? I know cable doesn't yet.

On demand movies do but not regular tv.

I wasn't going to say anything so I'm glad you did.

ok let me rephrase. 120HZ and 1080p doesn't do anything for a large majority of people right now. Cable still doesn't do either one, and Xbox 360 doesn't either for the most part (some games supposedly get 1080p). I can't speak for PS3.

That being said, eventually cable, video games, and everything else WILL be upgraded to 1080p and at least 120HZ, so to buy anything less right now would be stupid.

PS3 puts out 1080p signal. (Its blu ray).

I have a 720p plasma i've had for several years now. Picture still looks damn good even if it isn't 1080p. I'll likely get another plasma over LCD.

Plasma is better as long as you don't need to move it. Personally, i go back and forth between college and home for summer and winter breaks. so LCD/LED was really my only choice. Plasma has a lot of advantages though.

They both have advantages and disadvantages. The main one for me was that when I bought it in 2009, you got waaaaaaay more tv for your $$ with plasma than LED/LCD.

Plus, the two best tvs on the market at the time (excluding super high end models) were the Samsung 860 series and the Panasonic something something, so I went with the Sammy.

I have basic cable (coax straight to tv) & when I watch something in HD & look at the display it says it's in 1080p & 5.1 sound. An analog channel says nothing. When I play a game on my ps3 it says 720p on the display. When I watch a blu ray it says 1080p. When my cable went out & I hooked up the antenna I was getting HD in 1080p. From what I see the refresh rate don't affect blu ray or games at all but you can see it on HD channels.

You sure it doesn't say 1080i? I assure you, you're not getting 1080p signal. If anything, your tv may be "upscaling" it to progressive, but that isn't going to give you 1080p picture.

I have never seen 1080i on anything. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure some shows & sports have been in 1080p. My ps3 homescreen says 1080p & I took a pic of it.

120HZ or higher makes a huge difference, especially when watching sports. I didn't take this into account when I bought mine 3 years ago, when I bought a 60HZ. I get trailers behind players when they are running, etc. I didn't realize it was the HZ until I started doing a little research.
