I thought about this. However, my concern is this is a Director position in a professional atmosphere.

I would prefer to be overdressed than under at this one.

Some of them have big and tall sections. But that's hit or miss. I'd just go to a big and tall men's store and get a decent sport coat and pick up a new tie and shirt somewhere and call it a day.

$20 says they don't wear coat and tie ever there unless it's a sales rep on a client visit and that your interviewer will be less dressed than you if you have on a quality sport coat. I do a lot of our company's interviewing and a sharp dress coat looks better than a sloppy suit that you've made work.

If you are set on getting one and are b&t go get fitted and put it on plastic. As my dad said once, sometimes clothes are a business investment. I'll guarantee you though that a sport coat would not prevent you from getting a job in today's market place. I've seen vendors and clients at important meetings in them and they look 100% normal.

I'm only giving this advice because I too was broke once and thought the clothes made the man. I did the same thing you are doing. I have a beautiful fitted suit in my closet now that cost a fortune and I can't fit into it. I wouldn't do it again. A fitted suit only works if you don't go up or down in weight very much.

No. A fitted suit is out of the question. I am looking for something middle of the road. I am in the middle of a two year process of losing weight and I am in no mind to buy a suit like that to hang in a closet.

As our lead sales guy said to me. First impressions are important but nobody remembers what color your tie was, just how well you delivered.

Oh it can hurt, his wallet, especially if he doesn't get the job. He's doing it right though. Gonzo's issue is being over 6' tall and likely wearing larger than a size 50 coat and a tall at that is he'll pay double what an average guy might.
