Has experience as a kicking coach also. Maybe he can help our kicking game. Looks to be a solid hire. Has STs experience at LSU and Vandy.

This is what I'm most concerned about. Can he get our kicking game to be more consistant is the question. Hope so. Nice catch DaddyChad.

I don't pretend to know enough about football Xs and Os to get super excited about this hire from a mere tactical and coaching standpoint. I am, however, excited about adding another connection to the state, not university, of North Carolina. Dooley, aside from seeking quality coaching, appears to me to be hiring guys with specific recruiting areas that UT needs to improve in. Sal Sunseri recruited the Atlantic seaboard, in addition to the Southeast, for Alabama. The new offensive line coach and now this guy from UNC, quite obviously, recruited North and South Carolina and Virginia. The Vols need to make in-roads into North Carolina and Virginia to help alleviate some of the issues the sparse in-state talent cause and I think the recent hires speak to the purposefullness of this direction. Of course, they could have just been the best available coaches and the recruiting geography a mere coincidence.

Another coach with ties to the Carolinas and Virginia. Great way to start getting some kids from those areas.

Former NFL assistant coach Charlie Coiner moved to Austin two years ago to take a break from football and ended up starting a software company.

His startup, 1stDown Technologies, has created an interactive app for Apple's iPad and iPhone that offers 2,600 offensive plays used by college and professional football teams.

Ex-NFL assistant coach has a new venture: software startup

Firstdown Technologies | Introducing a game-changing mobile playbook resource.

Maybe he can help develop a simple app for UT that stays up to date for the android, the one they had was garbage. I hope I didn't pay for it. :)

I hope he focuses more on the kicking game than what we have been doing, but it can't get much worse than what it has been. Sounds good to me.

I think the first thing he should do is convince Palardy that the goal post is quite a bit higher than the centers ass! It should be an easy concept to grasp, but after last season let's start from scratch!
