New SEC team

Georgia Tech wouldn't be too bad, but my hope would be FSU. That would seriously do some damage on UF's recruiting options i think.

While we're dreaming...VT to SEC East.

Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Kentucky.

Wow. Eat your heart out Big 12 South.

The SEC does not need any school out of the state of Texas. From a logistical standpoint and fans traveling to games would be a nightmare and a huge expense. States that have 2 SEC teams are:
Alabama - Bama & Auburn
Mississippi - Ole Miss & Miss St.
Tennessee - Vols & Vandy

3 states make up half of the SEC schools

States to consider:
Georgia - UGA ( GA Tech - Decent in football and basketball )
Florida - UF ( FSU and the U, neither is that good in basketball )
Louisiana - LSU ( La Tech? )
South Carolina - SCAR ( Clemson is the only other choice of which I see no upgrade )

From a logistical standpoint GA Tech makes the most sense.

Leader of men.

Georgia Tech and Tulane already had a chance. Both left in the mid-60s for some reason or another. Bring in Clemson, Florida State, or on a wishful note, MTSU(snowball's chance in hell of happening, but it would put real SEC football within a 30 minute drive of my house. And before anyone says it, I would rather slam my wedding tackle repeatedly in a sliding glass door than set one foot or spend one dollar at Vahnderbilt).

Virginia Tech would bring a lot more than you think. Not only a state with 8 million inhabitants, but the SEC would control DC and Charlotte expanding its reach up to the mid-atlantic into 3 major metro areas: Hampton Roads, Charlotte and NOVA (Charlotte has the most VT alums of any city, only 2 hours from Blacksburg). But at the same time, it would fit the footprint as well with Kentucky not too far away.

We're also ok in basketball and have solid soccer (final 4 last year), track, swimming and softball programs. Baseball not so much.

Not trying to convince anyone though as the ACC is the greatest thing to happen to Virginia Tech.

MTSU would bring nothing to the SEC, the state of TN does not need 3 teams in the SEC. I would rather drop Vandy and pick up Memphis but neither is going to happen.

What do your hostesses look like?

I posted this weeks ago.... If the SEC were to lose one team to another conference what would happen ? I submit that we shouldn't add anyone... I believe we should lobby to send a great/good squad the other way . I think we could do without some Schools in the SEC for Myriad of reasons........... MSU/UK/MU/SC and yes TN.... I know ESPN money says nobody wants to leave but I'm sure that could be worked out. I would vote to further subtract than add to the conference. Also this would allow for more marketability through In-state rivalries and etc etc...

In the end it would be mutually beneficial to lower schools(athletics wise) to subtract rather than ADD ! IF we lose 1 lets LOSE 2 ! Keep the money, still be great and open an OOC game for every school in th CONF .

Why is everyone so in love with VA Tech, Clemson, and GA Tech? The first two don't bring much to the table as far as new TV markets go. And really, I doubt GA Tech would mean much in Atlanta beyond what the SEC already has.

I would pursue UVA, a major NC school, Miami, USF, or a Texas school. Any of those would bring in new TV markets.

Some of the mother lode of money comes from the SEC Championship game and by rule you have to have 12 teams to have one.

If the Big 12 passes on TCU and picks up Arkansas then I think it is a no brainer that we should try to pick up TCU. They have established themselves as a top 25 team year in and year out while playing in a smaller conference.

From a recruiting standpoint Texas outweighs North Carolina, and has a slight edge over Virginia.

I love the idea of Ga Tech, but as earlier posts say, what do they have to offer. Va Tech is not a possibility as they have ruled the ACC since joining just a few years ago. No way they move again. Same with Miami. UVA would be interesting, but I just don't see them leaving the ACC, too much history.
