New rule changes announced

- A player attempting to recover a loose ball is added to the list of defenseless players.

Seriously?
Makes sense, as you’ve probably seen, multiple players will be going for a loose ball and there’s one guy that uses that opportunity to blow someone up. It’s a cheap hit on a player who’s focused on the loose ball. Ear holing someone for the sole purpose of trying to hurt them is no longer part of the game.

Personally, I don’t think so. Apparently it was an unwritten form of a fair catch before. Shane Beamer tried to play in the gray area in last year’s Citrus Bowl. Led to some words from Illinois’ Bret Bielema.
I don't have a problem with it being a rule, I just think whether or not a player is making a T is going to be up for debate.

Wish we would have had that rule when Guarantano was here - made my stomach churn every time he did that fake bow and arrow routine...I mean he did it for a first down, touchdown. pass reception...anything.

Yeha it would have hurt us with penalty yards, but it would have got him to quit doing it...
Do you mean it tho?

So simulating the firing of a gun equates to “gun violence”. Ok wow.

Yup AJ & Curt would’ve racked up some penalty yardage. I miss seeing those two out there getting the team hyped up spraying invisible lead. Don’t think a reasonable soul on the planet had an issue with it.
While I disagree, I've seen penalties for guys pretending to lift their leg to pee like a dog or I think a crotch grab a la Michael Jackson.

I get not wanting violent imagery but is the gator chomp or tomahawk chop next?

C'mon, NCAA, lighten up.

Bout time!
I still think that a player who fakes an injury should sit out until the other team either punts, kicks, turns the ball over, gets a first down or touchdown.

This is my favorite
• All forms of gun violence are not permitted and simulating the firing of a weapon is an automatic unsportsmanlike foul. This year, if a player simulates the act of brandishing a weapon, it is considered an unsportsmanlike act.
It’s about time they stop acting like they’re shooting a bow and arrow out there. Can’t wait until FSU finds out a tomahawk is a weapon.

Don’t worry, the Supreme Court will have to teach the NCAA about the Bill of Rights, again.

Reasonable people just made a very good rule to control it. Your argument by intimidation is sad and pathetic. And wrong.

"after the ball is spotted" so it normally take about 8-10 seconds for refs to spot the ball after the whistle? That's still plenty of time to get the flop signal from the coach, grab your heart, "declare this is the big one" and go to the ground. Seems like most of the fake injuries happen before the ball was spotted. I guess we will see if this helps!

"Unsportsmanlike conduct" on Davey Crockett!

Simulating a gun being "unsportsmanlike" is lame. Are we that soft?

So a player for the Cowboys can't pretend to shoot pistols?

Good grief

Are the Cowboys in the NCAA?
Pulling your jersey up acting like you're going to pull a gun is what they are trying to get rid of. It's thug behavior and does not belong in sports

We’ll see, of course, but I hope this change keeps the ugliest fakes out of the game. Like that nonsense when Bama ran somebody on to fall down. That’s the worst.

I think Kirby (who is on the rules task force or whatever it’s called) referred to this as the “stay down” rule. They want a player who may be hurt to stay down or go down immediately. Don’t try to fight through because if you try and can’t go, you cost your team.

The rule can still be abused and it won’t stop all fakes. But it will stop the worst fakes and it does so without penalizing a player for going out. I’m sure the NCAA and the conferences are scared of any rule that forces an injured player to stay off for a certain number of plays because that kind of rule encourages players to stay on the field when they might be hurt.

I also think the game is better if we let the players get back in the game. Nobody has sympathy for a lay-down player going right back in the game, but what about a person with a potential concussion? Say Aguilar gets blasted high on a scramble and has to get checked out in the 4th quarter when UT has no timeouts left. Should he be done for the day? What if the injury was getting the wind knocked out of you or getting kicked in the family jewels? Those are real injuries that require coming off but they are temporary and shouldn’t make somebody sit too long.

I wish we could drop the hammer on fakers while showing grace to the really hurt, but a ref can’t tell what’s real or fake in the moment and the consequences of being wrong are high.

Its really not that complicated, video evidence of a player faking an injury should be a 15 yard penalty. They already have a ref watching for concussions, he could also look for bad actors. The spotting of the ball will be abused, and the coach that does it, “kiffin” will be within his rights, and will laugh about it.

The T kickoff rule is confusing. What if you do that on an onside kick? Is it a dead ball?
