What do yall think the over and under is for a straightup game of incoming freshman vs returning players? After graduation and attrition, wouldn't it make for an interesting matchup?

Frosh Offense:
OL: Kerbyson, Tiny, Crowder, Jackson, Posey
QB: Worley
RB: Lane, Smith
TE: Clear
WR: Arnett, Dallas

Returning Defense:
DL: Jackson, Walls
DE: Miller, J Smith
LB: Austin Johnson, Lathers, Greg King
DB: JJ, BBrewer, PWagg, Teague

Verdict? TIE

Fresh Defense:
DL: Couch, Carson
DE: JWilliams, TSaulsberry
LB: AJ Johnson, Maggitt
DB: Randolph, JColeman, Moore, Lanier, Pat Martin

Returning Offense:
OL: JJames, James Stone, DThomas, Schofield, ZFulton
QB: Bray
RB: Poole, Fugate
TE: Rivera
WR: JHunter, Da'Rick

Verdict? Loco wins in a close call

Fresh Special Teams:
DevrinYoung, Vincent Dallas

Returning Special Teams:
Anthony Anderson

Verdict? New guys by a few scores

What do YOU think?

The new guys would get destroyed. Our returning O-line is going to be very good next year. Those guys are massive and athletic.

Of all the videos that I have watched, Dallas impresses me the most. He is the sleeper.

Let me guess? Auburn could beat the Carolina Panthers, right?

Most hs players are not in shape to play in SEC. Tiny and Johnson might be, but other probably need some time with S&C work. Maybe by mid-season. Plus the speed of the college game is so faster. JMO

This might be one of the funniest things I've read in a long time.

So the freshman are running a 4-2-5 and the returning guys a 4-3-4? I would add Christian Harris to the LB for Freshman and make it 4-3.

actually...i think tom smith is the sleeper in this class. he is build identically to travis henry. narrow shoulders and squatty arms with huge thighs makes his upper body small and compact adn hard to get a real hit on...and his legs, you just dont want to hit him there. trust me...this kid may be the biggest sleeper in years for the vols.

Interesting comparison. You left out Zach Fulton on the returning OL. Returning guys win - easy.

yeah...our returners destroy...wouldnt be different anywhere in the nation. Freshmen are freshmen.

How about this year's O&W game theme:
Freshmen/Sophomore vs. Juniors/Seniors

since we had "celebrity" coaches last time around..

You might have something there. If these freshman were on campus by then, they could put up a fight when combined with our sophomore class (how bad would the junior/senior offense be??).

figured we return a majority of our offense which still has the worse running game in the SEC, a 4-2-5 could slow Bray down coupled with weak Da'Rick route running.. but i get your point.

I think that proves the point everyone is trying to make. Even a highly rated HS star like Da'Rick needed some time to grow and learn at the next level. If he has route issues this year, then we have problems, but my guess is he won't. Our offense will be pretty powerful this year with just the returning players, the recruits will add a lot and some will be asked to contribute early, but don't expect too many to have to step up the way Bray, Stone and James did last year.

That would be interesting, but probably no contest. The freshmen/sophomores would drill the upperclassmen, imo. That speaks a bit to why we need at least one more year of seasoning for these guys to be ready. You would normally expect your upperclassmen to school the underclassmen.

Just look at the numbers alone - probably 55-ish players on the F/S team and maybe 27-ish on the J/S team (not meant to be exact, but is close). Not sure how the J/S guys would come up with an offense that'd be able to do much of anything - whereas all the F/S guys need is a TE (so they wouldn't use one. 4 wide or 3 wide with a FB). Think Pope would be the only J/S OL who's ever played to speak of. They'd have a little more to work with on D, but also no kicker or punter. And for sure no kick or punt returners to be scared of.

2012 we'll be good. 2013, we'll be scary good, imo.

Edit: not sure if OL Thomas will be RS Soph or Junior.

Carson is a double team waiting to happen! Immovable objects are always a good thing to have on the defensive line.

If our returning players didnt beat down the incoming guys, we would have some major problems with player development.

Yep... OL is definitely one of the harder positions to come in and start straight out of HS. Most guys need lots of time to add the size needed.

As for impact freshmen, I could see all of our new linemen on both sides of the ball, as well as Arnett, Johnson and Maggitt. Let's see how things shake out in the spring.

Actually Oline will probably be the hardest place to get a freshman in we had 5 guys who played at some point all coming back plus Bullard coming in. Some true freshman would do well to take a redshirt this year and get bigger and better and hope to play when they are Juniors

We threw the kitchen sink at the OL last season. Screw redshirts, the best guys play. The run blocking was atrocious all season, it NEEDS to get better.
