I think Hunter wore #1 in HS, that would look cool. Da'Ricks #21 will be cool too.

Didnt Corey wear something in the 80s? I think jersey numbers in the 80s on DEs are cool.

Oh please, Eric Berry while he was very good he is not even close to the levels of White and Manning to get his number retired;
Not to mention he was more worried about worried about his birthday bash the day after the Chick-Fil-A game than the actual game...

I agree with UTVOLPJ....Someone will roll in 14 next year, probably a QB...Some people make some of these kids out to be more than they actually are. Berry was a great player, probably the best DB in UT history but his teams never won crap. There is a high criteria to have your number retired at UT and if he has met that and its retired then no one will ever wear it again,

i remeber after last year's signing day we had a trhead speculating on what number some of our new players would wear.
Not much news post recruiting season so I thought I'd start another one.

Off the top of my head these are the numbers I could think of that are available. Not sure what the early enrollees have:

1
2
5
7
8
9
14-sacred
21
31
41
51
55
65
79
87
94

Im guessing Da'Rick Rogers will take 21. Anybody know what number Bray took?
Would like to see Milton snag #1.

Well unless 70 is taken, then im guessing Jawauan will take that number, since it was the number he wore in high school. If it is taken, then he'll probably take 79 or something like that.

Matt Milton will be #82, unless he decides to change it.

Here's a pic of him at practice

They will likely have receivers wearing 60's and 70's since there are more WRs than numbers and not enough big uglies.

It's possible, but from my understanding here are the requirements so 14 will be available for at least 5 years:

A candidate must have achieved THREE of the following five collegiate honors:
a. Induction into the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
b. Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Year.
c. Consensus All-America.
d. Heisman Trophy winner.
e. Have won one of the following general athletic/academic or non-position specific awards: Sullivan Award, SEC Athlete of the Year (all sports) or Draddy Award.

Recognizing the tremendous collective impact of Tennessee Volunteers in professional football, candidates must have also achieved THREE of the following four professional distinctions:
a. Induction into the NFL Hall of Fame.
b. NFL offensive or defensive MVP.
c. Achieved Pro Bowl status in 5 seasons.
d. Holder of a major career or season statistical record (yards, sacks, tackles, touchdowns scored or thrown).

So Eric will have to have a superb NFL career before it would even matter.

i dont think what you do in the pros should effect if you number gets retired

Well, it's an elite award offered to our greatest players. The argument is that they continued their excellence after leaving the university and represented us with class. I think we also have to consider that we can't just go around retiring everyone's number so this is a way to keep that list short.

There must be a wide gap between retired numbers and Ring of Honor names. Honor players for contributions. Retire numbers for something truly special.

based on the requirements I don't think he'll ever get it. He could only get 2 of the college ones. Now if he gets all of the Pro ones there may be a discussion

you talking about the ring in the stadium? Who has their name there but no retired jersey?

Isn't Austin Rogers number 21? And isn't he coming back next season? I thought the NCAA granted him another season because of his injury.

He announced (in December?) that he wasn't coming back.
