I would have no problem with any of these coaches:

Dana Holgorsen
Al Borges
Shawn Watson
Paul Chryst
Jeff Jags
Mark Whipple

More lower tier:

Blake Anderson
Lincoln Riley
Steve Axman
Paul Petrino
Tony Franklin -- yes, that Tony Franklin. Not Tommy Tubberville handicapped Tony Franklin.
Justin Fuente

major applewhite would be a good addition to that list.

I say give him one more year. I understand we aren't that talented(as we are accustomed to) an we have a bunch of young players, but I have been disappointed with the play calling so far this year

The only way you are going to get one of those guys is by offering them the Head coaching job. Hamilton had a golden opportunity to do that and blew it. I don't expect to see a new OC until Dooley leaves.

Firing Jim Chaney would be one of the worst decisions UT could make. Please take a look at the man's resume and understand what/who he's working with.

what part of his resume are you so impressed by?

All of the highlights were discussed and dismissed in the OP.

granted i did leave out the stops in Wyoming and Cal State Fullerton... are those what are so impressive?

Having a good (BigTen) offense when you have Drew Brees is not impressive, its expected. BTW, even the very best of Joe Tiller's Purdue teams never won more than 9 games in a season. Mind you it is Joe Tiller's offense... not Jim Chaney's.

Coaching the line for the worst team in the NFL besides maybe the Lions is not impressive.

He can't call plays, plain and simple.

I say if its horrible the rest of the season, fire at will... i'm sick of hiring OC's who cannot change it up a bit ? how did we get D.Rogers involved ? G-Gun ? No wildcat? C'mon...

this is their second year with Chaney.

If you watched the coaches show at all last year, they clearly stated that Lane had the final say in all play calls and knocked down a lot of Chaneys calls....so no, first year + many freshmen = like it or not, you have to be patient.

Why was he part of HC position chatter at a few schools searching for a new HC if he sucks so bad? Look back in the new archives, you'll find it.

G-Gun? Gerald Jones was hurt for a few games for starters. They tried running plays with him but when you have freshmen missing blocks, it doesn't matter who you have running unless you can suit up maybe Barry Sanders.....What do you mean how did we get D. Rogers involved?

I agree with some of you about firing Chaney. If we continue to fire and hire coaches year after year, we will continue to get lower rated recruiting classes and we will just continue to be in a rebuilding process. If you decide to build a house and every month you want to tear down the foundation and start over, you will never get the finished product. I get just as mad as the next vol fan when we run a fly sweep twice in a row and when Poole runs a 59 yarder and we start always throwing on first down with little success. I think that things will get better next year but

I also think we need to mix in some kind of spread offense to mix it up. Everyone talks about how Dooley and Saban are cut from the same cloth and even Saban throws in some wildcat formations. We just need more talent, depth and experience at OL to make a spread/wildcat work. We will get there my friends.
