New names tomorrow

IMO, Currie is letting stuff out to gauge fan interest because he can't afford another bloody Sunday.

But he has it all wrong.

He needed to do that with the Sunday chioce

There was ZERO need to do that with a coach like Gundy

Now every coach we try has leverage........and every other admin (that could be a possibility) knows what could be coming. Not to mention all other coaches will know how far down the list they are and what has previously been offered.........this is not good.

Anyone with any football knowledge can see when and where you need to be quiet and when and where you don't.

Like them or not search firms are used exclusively for these reasons. To make sure you don't have a PR nightmare.......and to make sure no one knows who and how much.......unless you want people to know the "who."

Why on earth use one.......when surely if you are an AD at a place like Tennessee you could handle something like this........but obviously this one couldn't......and should have used one.

Could be entirely off base but if you think about it for first two weeks we operated in secrecy. No one knew what we were doing (who knew we weren't doing anything) All the sudden we are more out in open and raising the bar on $$$. To me, common sense says $6-8mm gets folks attention including agents who want a cut. The Gundy news broke late. By late morning tomorrow there will be a higher profile name or two who haven't been mentioned. Coaches and agents know we are in talks with others and need to act quick. We could fall back to lower tier than Gundy but I don't think we will. $$$ talks.

Every upper tier coach making $2-4mm isn't happy, or will see potential for big pay day and opportunity to be a legend.

There was a lot happening the first two weeks, and even well before that. They just didn’t tell anybody what was happening while they were wrapping up the hire. Everything coming out now is simply a diversion until they are able to announce the new coach (whose name has not been mentioned in any of these “leaks”) this weekend.

I think you are seeting yourself up for a huge disappointment. The events that have transpired since Butch has been fired should be all the proof ypu need to see we are totally screwed. We are not getting a great coach. I dont even think we get a good coach.

At this point, its either an unproven risky hire, a coach from an FCS or promote an assistant tp head coach.

Hoke will end up our permanent coach.

Picking a coach when you are desperate is a lot like grocery shopping when you are hungry. You put a bunch of crap in your basket thats bad for you and you always end up buying something you will regret later

Does it have to be a big name? I think we get carried away with the name. Lets look at the top 4 teams.
Clemson Dabo Swinney was the Wr coach at clemson.
Oklahoma Lincoln Riley was the OC at oklahoma and in 2014 he was the OC at Eastern Carolina.
Auburn Gus Malzahn was the head coach at Arkansas State.
Wisconsin Paul Chryst ws the head coach at Pittsburgh.

We need to find the best fit for Tennessee. We also need someone that is going to be stay here.

I think we are way past a big name coach coming here, we need to get the best tier 2 coach that we can and hope like heck that he is a diamond in the rough.

Why has no one mentioned John Chavis? With Sumlin fired he is available. At the very least lets bring him back as the DC. Tee Martin and John Chavis is not a bad start.

VC,

So, you're confirming that Sunday's name/GS ordeal was known for >=2 weeks but was just a diversion and that the real name (whose name has not been mentioned) is in the sealed envelope until they're able to announce it. Ok.

Wow, they even got Urban Meyer in on the diversion. That's awesome. He never seem to me to be much of a jokester.

You don’t have to believe me. I get it. We’ll all be happy once the announcement is made.

VC, What's his team's record this year and last year -- and to conceal the real one, make it +/- 1 or 2 on the win side.

Justin Wilcox should be someone on the radar. First year HC at Cal. Was Dooley's DC from Boise ST. under Peterson.

Not leaving Cal after 1 year. Plus, I don't think he particularly enjoyed his last experience in Knoxville.

My apologies everyone. I was wrong about Butch winning 7-8 games this year, and was wrong that $$$ would over ride our Currie stench. Clearly AD dead-man-walking is an issue for qualified candidates. Hire Les...let's celebrate it and move on down the road.
