New MLB Doping Scandal

Yeah but his intent was not sincere. He used that as driving force to cash in. And cash in, he did.

It took him a while, but McGwire has owned up. And not in book selling way, or I want in to the HoF way. I heard him on the Dan Patrick show a while back, and he sounded sincere.

front page of ESPN tells you a lot of what you need to know about people framing PED stories in the MLB.

Front page article/photo:

A Rod with the headline "WAS IT ALL A LIE?"

...

On the right, the headlines, very top:

"Ravens' Lewis denies banned substance use"
"Report: A-Rod, others on clinic's PED lists"
"Sources: Yanks want to void A-Rod contract"

I mean, give me a ****ing break.

In one sport, it is now THE story of the season and offseason. In another, they act like PEDs have never even been considered.

I wasn't in tune enough during Bonds' reign to really recall his interactions with the media. I know they didn't get along and I know he didn't give a ****, just don't remember enough to comment or come to his defense in any way.

One of the best ever, though.

It wasn't just the media. Bonds was famous for treating his teammates like crap, like they were just hired help. There were lots of stories about how Barry got half the SF clubhouse, and the rest of the team got the other half. Bonds picked the music. Bonds's entourage got full run of the place. Etc etc. He burned every bridge he could.

Still, everyone had a grudging respect for him. If he'd never touched PEDs and finished up his normal career arc, he'd have ended up as one of the top 20 players of all time, a first ballot HOFer, and over time his jackassery would have been remembered almost fondly, like Ted Williams. Instead Bonds is a pariah.

(Same thing with Clemens, although Clemens is clearly bothered that he's a pariah, and I don't know that Bonds cares.)

Funny how the sport where PEDs would help you about 100 times more is the one where they pretend it doesn't exist, isn't it? Love how those Seattle guys were suspended for taking Ritalin.

I'm sure Ray Lewis got back from a torn freaking tricep in a few weeks by praying to God and putting in time in the weight room.

I have a totally different perspective, obviously, but from an "i've seen highlights and the occasional non-angry interview"... I like Clemens.

He has, I should have prefaced that they came clean from the start.

I'm almost positive there's a clause in his contract in regards to PEDs

It is the Union that won't ever let that stand. Yankees are on the hook, but I understand why they want to do all within their power to try to null that albatross. A Rod definitely doesn't deserve it. Bit one way or the other he will get it.

Even if there's a clause in the contract about PEDs, it's hard to see the Yankees being able to void it without a positive test. Fortunately for them money doesn't matter.
