Hello everyone I am new to volnation. I am thankful for the upward surge of Tennesse athletics especially in the football program. With that said I do believe college football has made the biggest mistake it has ever made with the transfer portal. I am afraid the manipulation in college athletics will go to s level like never before. I hope we can find those young men again that dreamed of playing on Rocky Top. I had the privilege of playing at a small school and am thankful for that. However I would have paid to play. Go VOLS.

I agree with you in principle. Totally. It’s the world we’re living in I suppose. Lots changed since “I” was a kid and it’s a big world with billions spent on sports. What we’re seeing is what we’ve helped “feed” for the last 40-50 years, these are the results of that evolution. I’m NOT against these kids getting a share, I’m just not sure NIL is the answer.

The mistake started with NCAA not having rules in place to stop coaches from leaving schools anytime they choose. And instead of putting the extra millions back into the student athletes they decided that coaches and administrators salaries should sky rocket. Those decisions created all of this.

You aren't sure owning and being allowed to utilize your own name, image, and likeness like every other person in the world is a good idea?

That part is fine. I guess we’re going to have to watch and see how this goes? Lots of concerns among a lot of people it will get out of hand. When the ink hasn’t even dried on the LOI (and the kid hasn’t even been through spring practice), and he’s twitting about his “deal” … I guess that’s the new world of college sports. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Welcome aboard. Didn’t mean to hijack your thread, you mentioned how you would pay to play and I ran with it 🙄 … I am not a huge fan of the portal but it’s sure made things interesting.

Exploited? How? I think a single group of people unable to utilize what belongs to them like every other human in the world was more exploitative. People that age in other industries are making similar deals. No one is complaining about that.

OP shame you missed the REALLY fun (dysfunctional) times...good stuff like Schiano, Grumors, Curry’s disappearing jet ride, 5* hearts, Dooley shower discipline, etc...am sure there’s more good stuff to come...
