Since this thread is already garbage....i am wanting to buy my wife a SLR Digital Camera for christmas....looking at the cannons and nikon's do you any of you guys know anything about these? wanting to keep it under or around a grand.

I know that the Nikon is a great SLR at under a grand. Sony makes a good SLR at under a grand as well. My mom used a Minolta film camera for years and had lenses that fit the Minolta camera. The Sony SLR uses the Minolta lenses, so she went with that camera. But, if she hadn't already hat that camera and therefore the lenses, I would have recommended the Nikon from the recommendations I have received from (more knowledgeable)friends. Most other SLRs use lens adjusted stablizers...but the Sony cameras do the stabilization in the camera body and therefore the Minolta lenses fit well (because Sony bought out Minolta).

Thanks for the advice, I am getting up early in the morn and going to fight everyone for a camera....I really like the Nikon to, I would imagine that is the one that I am going to go with. I found a awesome looking Sony at bestbuy for around 899, may sneak a peak at it as well. Glad you had a good thanksgiving and thanks for the advice. I am calling it a night, have a good one tomm...
