New info on Nico & His Dad

Can you imagine showing up for a autograph signing with your child and Nico not showing up!

Do any of us on here have firsthand knowledge of this?
There is a Vols camp being held in my town. I know the guy putting it together and I was told Nico wanted $50k just to show up.

Crazy for a guy already making $2.4 mil to ask for that much to come hangout with young Vol fans for a few hours.

I actually wonder if Nico is just very introverted and shy…and likely woulda been much happier playing volleyball in the Mountain West.
I get the impression he is the product of a domineering father who controlled every aspect of his life. It is hard to step out of your shell when you have not been allowed to do that at any point in your life. He doesn't have the ability to be the face of the program or to lead the team in the locker room or on the field. I think you are right, he would be happier being an anonymous player in a sport no one watched.

What I would give for a chance to meet nico and his dad in a dark alley with no
Nico is 6'6" and about 220lbs and young and quick. Dad is also a large individual.

Unless you're bringing something that goes pew-pew
OR
Your last name is Gracie

you might want to rethink that.

Sounds like him and his family are straight trash, good riddance ! If somebody was paying me that kind of money to throw a leather ball around, I’d be happy to show up wherever they needed me.
This is a prime example of what is wrong with the today’s culture, they want everything for free. Nobody wants to work for anything poor me boo hoo !

Last year, my admittedly unhinged comments calling Nico a 'punk' were deleted . We always hear Nico was 'laid back California...cool-headed.' I just saw a lackadaisical punk who wasn't much engaged or cared much. I gotta believe others saw it too.
Entitled to success. So, pajama pants werent too far from the tree. Or some such?

Didnt want to stereotype.

Joe always seemed like he leaned on his physical attributed moreso than putting in the work. Nico seemed like he put zero work into anything and expected the results to be there.

Absolutely think he wasnt ready for primetime. Further. absolutely think his personalty isnt a type you want in a QB. Gotta have an assertive type.

I’m going to say if UCLA or any other school has read this by now, or at least will over the weekend, there may be NO deal gettting done for Nico anywhere. He might be watching college football from home. This is the kind of stuff that ADs, coaches and certainly NFL GMs and owners look at and know right away this is a headache they don’t need.
If UCLA signs him it is going to be a Humbling experience for all of them.

Basically Nico is going to a team that plays in the B10 and a team that will always will have a limited watered down fan base as they share in a sports Market consisting of other college teams, major league sports teams. UCLA has not set the world on fire they last decade and probably will not regain it as they enter there 2nd year of playing a true P4 conference. There is a reason the PAC 10 folded. They have the corps fans and the other colleges and professional teams have many market share.

At least half of his games will not be seen on the East Coast. NICO's visibility will take a huge drop, he maybe mentioned as a Heisman Trophy candidate at some point but will never get the promotion like he would have at Tennessee. To do so he will have to win at least 9 games and I don't see that happening at UCLA.

If I were him, I would take a year off from football, get my crap together, continue to train and reenter the portal or recruitment.
I would not sign with anyone this year. I would sit out and try to return to SEC. The old Kiffin move.

Swain was alluding to some of this in his podcast recently but didn't give any details. Now it makes sense why we never saw Nico on anything except for Vols official media content. Dude could have been a legend but instead is just another letdown. Hopefully someday he'll look back and realize what a colossal disappointment he was at UT.
Ainge was saying some of the same too. If I recall correctly, he also said most of Nico's pay was going to the family, and not him.

I think he'll do well at UCLA. No pressure. Has his family right there and the culture fits. They are garbage. He is talented. He himself will take them to a bowl.

He will however not play himself to the NFL.

A lot of truth to this. Not everyone wants to be the face of a program like Tennessee. If you’re an introvert then going in public knowing you’ll be recognized and be expected to talk isn’t the best. Being back in LA is probably best for the kid and being able to go to a Lakers game without being bombarded of how a fan named their dog Nico. UCLA is a back page program.

Starting to think the real reason we've had so many WR transfers is that the WRs didn't like playing with Nico.
Or they were told to look elsewhere. We’ve had more than a few that needed to move on with their lack of production.

I don't think he will ever look back. Evidently he has a me attitude that has been taught to him by his father.

You are never as good as you think you are, but your never as bad as someone else thinks you are.

Nico will need a lot of therapy when he cuts the umbilical cord from his dad.
Either that or go off the rails like Tiger did.

The collectives could stop all of this if they paid players an actual percentage of what they earn instead of guaranteed money.

Yes, this is how it really should work. The offer is that if you participate in the activities we line up for you then we can guarantee you dollars, but you don't get those dollars if you choose not to participate.

If I am some of those NIL "investors" I'm gearing up to head to court.
They would definitely have a case.

But to the OP yeah, this definitely isn’t the place for you, Nico.

If this is how you roll, this is not the place. It’s the place of Peyton Manning, Andy Kelly, Heath Shuler. But more importantly it’s the place of the first black QB to start in the SEC, Condredge Holloway. It’s the place of the first black SEC QB to win a national championships in Tee Martin. These torchbearers before you, who all possess honor and integrity, paved the way for what would have been the second Polynesian QB SEC to do those things. But no sir-ree. This is not the place for you.
