Players will be able to walk straight from the 120-yard practice field into the new weight room — a 22,000 square foot “multilevel thunderdome of power,” as it’s called in UT’s promotional video for the facility. Along with the standard free weights, machines, cardiovascular training equipment — which will be situated on a deck that overlooks the weight room — and a nutrition bar, it will feature a mixed martial arts cage “so we can go in and fight and all that stuff,” Dooley said.

Tennessee Volunteers’ new football facility will have an MMA cage. Yep | Off the Bench

I saw a thread on the facility itself but this deserves more attention. Chris Treece (former Vol DB) was talking it up on the radio today saying this will be huge for recruiting and for settling "issues" in-house.

I like it. What better way to teach young men how to settle their differences than allowing them to beat the sh!t out of each other in a steel cage... If only this cage existed when Wilcox and C. Smith were still in the employ of UT.

Well, chuck ladale doesn't fight much anymore. Could have a new coach of a$$ whoop.

The new coach of "a$$ whoop" is likely to be Brack Larsen, Andy Salva, or George Sant Pear. Also from boxing, Mack Tykson is in the running.

Think the ACLU will file a lawsuit?

Mma moves, leverage and balance can be a great help to dline, lbs especially, but helps all. Hell, the sprawl is one of the first things taught on the mat and its a great, quick move for a db to fight off a roll block and get to the ball carrier.
