"New" Depth Chart ..

Till pass rush like 3rd down. Vereen is a go getter but on run stops Lewis appears to be a little ahead is my observations.

Vereen has a tendency to not play his position and not seal the end. He got abused 3 or 4 times in the bama game as well as the A&M game. HUGE gains because he did not stay home

If DKjr is back and the staff has indicated Bituli is to get 20/25 snaps, it speaks to where Jumper really is IMO. The young man has played his heart out and will get snaps from time to time. But Jumper plays behind Bituli the rest of the season and he was playing behind McDowell from the 1st game when JRM went out.

I don't mean to argue, but if Bituli gets the majority of snaps over Jumper he better be a tackling machine, because, despite Volnation's initial evaluations, Jumper has turned into a darn good SEC LB.

darn good?!?
i would say competent. rarely makes tackles behind the line of scrimmage (shooting through holes in the offensive line), gets drug on most tackles an extra yard or two, gets blocked with ease usually on blitzes, and nothing special in pass coverage. he's improved a lot from last year and is good for a walk on. not a "good" middle line backer. i'm happy he's played admirably for a guy who got thrown in there but he isn't darn good by any means. reeves-maybin and kirkland are good linebackers. and we need to hope bituli is the next one because jumper will never hit the next level.

where jumper really helps is, getting everybody lined up. But, if DKjr is back, you go with the talent and DK. gets everyone lined up.

we really need some size and athleticism at the ilb position. no matter how Jumper has played.

I'm still optimistic that we will win the East and win out. UF will lose 1 or 2 more sec games this season. But we will be doing it with a new looking team from week 1.

Offense
QB Dobbs
RB Hurd - J KELLY
WR - Byrd, Jennings, Malone, Smith
TE WOLF
OT - Kendrick / Hall
G - jones / Robertson
C - Weisman

DEFENSE ... this is where it hurts

DE - Barnett/ Lewis
DT - TUTTLE/ VICKERS
ILB - Kirkland
OLB - McDowell / Jumper
S - TKjr / ABERNATHY
NB- GAULDEN
CB - FOREMAN/ MOSELEY

PR- Byrd
KR - BERRY

In summary, our offensive line is better than we were week one since Weisman has taken over at center and Jack Jones has come into starting Guard position. Preston Williams leaving hurts but Byrd emergence makes that a wash in my mind. Biggest offensive let down is Kamara. This has been his break out season. Hopefully Byrd and John Kelly can step up in his place.
On Defense we are hit hardest with Our best secondary player in Sutton, best 3 LB in Maybin, Sapp, and Kirkland out, and in my opinion the best 2 DT this season is McKenzie and Obrien out for season. If we can stay healthy and get Kirkland and possibly Sutton back in next couple weeks we should win out IMO.

Go Vols

A few things...

But first... this is a list of who you think will start... usually a depth chart includes depth...

1.) Byrd is #3 or 4 @ WR behind Malone, Jennings, then one could make argument either way for 3 & 4 between Smith & Byrd...

2.) I believe you left Vereen (a starter) off of your depth chart...

3.) Coaches have already said given his knowledge of all the LB positions, Kirkland would move outside & Jumper will remain in the middle...

Appreciate the info. Obviously missed that. I knew he got a medical red shirt last year but thought I heard he was going to get a regular redshirt this year. Obviously I was wrong.

You can receive two medical redshirts in a career but it's not automatic...has to be applied for AFTER your fifth year.

He is not a darn good SEC lb. He is a body, but comparing him and Alabama's lbs he looks like a 90 lb weakling with Web feet. I guess some think he is the prettiest girl at the dance prob. is there are only 3 girls in attendance and the other two are 80 years old.

You are a tough guy to please. Jumper is second on the team for tackles on the season (42) having started 5 of 7 games. TKJr. leads with 50 having started all 7 games. I'm not saying Jumper is Al Wilson, but to me, his performance, not his potential, makes him a good SEC linebacker. As someone once said, 'potential just means you haven't done anything yet'.

Hope Bituli has a stand out game and shows he is much more than a player with potential.

OK, But check the stats before you slam the guy. Guess we just need to agree to disagree. But very few, if any, Vols compared well with their Alabama's counterparts in the most recent meeting.

Vereen and Barnett started against Bama. Just pulled up the 1st series on DVR. Is this the official depthchart or just what you think it will be. Because it looks a little off and as other said Shoop has said he wanted Kirkland and Jumper on the field at same time and if game allows like to play Bituli 20 to 25 snaps.

This is just my impression . Butch will definitely have some wrinkles in the 2 deep for South Carolina

Yes this is obviously not a 2 deep. The LBs will be interchangeable and depending on if we run a nickel or base defense the options will vary. South Carolina is a running team and you will probably not see pass rushing Vereen starting over Lewis, but I may be surprised. The receivers were not in order from #1 to #4 receiver. Those were just the 4 primary receivers that would start depending on formation

It might be unfair to compare everyone's LBs with bama's...

Jumper is a solid performer...never gonna be a star but plays extremely smart and hard...he's a VFL and will be a great asset next year subbing in for guys...

Jumper has played as well as he possibly could. BUT I need you to process DK jr, a true freshman last year, played in front of him for a reason the rest of last year and this one. Bituli, a true freshman, will play in front of him for most of the rest of this season for a reason.

I appreciate his play and the way he knows the defense but he's a walkon that's playing because no one else has stepped up. he's good depth, not great depth. and, I hope he continues to play his best.

Tennessee Offense = 2 Sr, 5 Jr, 4 So Defense = 2 Sr, 6 Jr, 4 So. SP Jr P & K
South Carolina = 2 Sr, 3 Jr, 4 So, 2 Fr. 4 Sr, 4 Jr, 3? Sr P & K

Not sure about #of stars, but experience about even. They played Vandy, Miss State, East Carolina, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Georgia and Umass. 3-4. We played on the road at A&M in OT. They lost to Georgia by 14 at home. I think we can take them. Close game. Go Vols.

I apologize, when I read it, it came off to me as Byrd in the 1 spot, sorry bout that. With all the injuries & with people returning on the defensive side, it will most certainly be interesting to see how the lineup shakes out.

Go Vols!
