New commit expected today

I count 11 scholarship LB's on the roster. Six are seniors and 2 more could go pro after this year with one almost certain. Only Vereen, Bynum, and Harris are guaranteed to return.

This class has to be loaded with LB's or XL safeties.

Pleased as plum with this commit but Bates is a really, really big deal.
The worst part is, Vereen moved to DE.

Now get Dillon Bates and the Berry twins and the Vols are off to a great start in 2014 recruiting.

Based on statements by his dad, Bates doesn't plan to make a decision until after going through the "recruiting process." So I guess January.

I am glad you don't... cause I do.

UT needs more than that. I am not taking a shot at Jones by any stretch but the Vols needed more than they got at LB in the '13 class.

Just threw out 3 big names and said "at a minimum"....

Don't disagree they could've used more, but not much time to salvage the class. Wish Leavenberry would've signed. I wrote I wasn't concerned cause I have confidence Butch will target his recruiting accordingly. Plus, I think moving back to the 4-3 gives us more flexibility - 4-3 linebackers aren't as "unique" as 3-4 linebackers. Anywho, Butch looks pretty relentless on the recruiting trail to this point so I trust he'll get the talent and depth needed.

hope creamer get faster if he is to play wide out.. none the less always good to get a guy his size

Not picking at you but this gets mentioned all the time. For some reason, since 40 times get so overhyped, people think if a WR or RB don't run a 4.3 or 4.4 then they can't play. It just isn't true. Sure the speed helps a great deal, especially in the case of someone like say Chris Johnson, but there is so much more to it than that. Didn't help that Leonard Scott had sprinter speed. Out of ALL the players at the combine this year, very few (relatively speaking) ran sub 4.5, and that's the best of the best going into the NFL. You don't have to be a burner to play football. The NFL is full of receivers running 4.5 and slower, and you're talking about a 6'4" 220 lb kid that runs sub 4.7 as a junior in HS. Even if he doesn't get any faster, which I think he will, 4.6-4.7 is plenty fast enough to be a great receiver in the SEC, esp at that size.

Just a few examples where football speed, football IQ and work ethic, etc. are more important than being a burner:

The GOAT, Jerry Rice - 4.6
NFL all time leading rusher, Emmit Smith - 4.6 at best
NFL 2012-2013 playoff superstar, Anquan Boldin - 4.7
