New Commit - DE/LB Martaze Jackson

glad to have Martaze Jackson as a Vol,don't let message board posters bother you one bit, there are a lot of fans that are glad you decided to give your all for Tennessee, welcome aboard

thanks utcvol i have been trying to get someone to tell me the answer to that question. could you possibly start a thread about the article about james stone?

Don't you know the ******* sky is falling? Chicken Littles are clucking and you don't want to hear them!!!!!!!!

OK for all of you Chicken Littles, the man has 3 weeks to get some players in here. There are fewer available now than earlier. Would you rather pass on some 3*s with upside potential, take some of them or just pass on everyone? I sure am glad DD is making these decisions and not you illogical armchair QBs.

LOL. I could not agree more. I wonder how many of these people are trolls just yanking our chains. Please tell me that we do no have that many idiots as fans.:p

If I remember correctly, we just got our arse handed to us by a team (Va. Tech) loaded with 3 star talent. The Va. Tech running back that ran all over us was a 3 star. Stars dont always mean the end all when it comes to recruits and recruiting. Maybe CDD sees something in this kid that the recruiting services don't.

CDD + Lance Thompson + Monte Kiffin when he was here...this kid didn't just pop onto our radar now. He's been there.

They had other guys higher on their wish list, but we aren't in the mix for those. Stat wise he is a little lighter and a bit slower on the 40, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a lot of potential. At this point in the recruiting cycle, you see us going for some of the guys where evaluation is critical.

That won't convince him. LOL. He is one of the anti-DD s!!! birds.

Stars are not a guarantee, but I bet that on average more 4/5star players become good college players than three stars. It is more a question of averages.

That being said, there are coaches out there that are great evaluators of talent. Va tech is probably one of those.

People basing their opinions on Rivals or Scouts alone is ridiculous depending on the athlete. For one Tenn, Notre Dame, South Alabama, Georgia State,UAB, Arkansas, and Auburn have been looking at Jackson since his sophmore year. I seen the letters to prove it.

Monty came to Demopolis High School a week before his departure to Cal. and offered Jackson, as well as our junior RB DaMarcus James full ride scholarships. So evidently Dooley saw the same thing your ex coach Monty did and that was potential. His 40 time is not actually 4.78 that was before his SENIOR year. He was timed his Senior year at 4.5. He played against linemen that weighed 330 lbs and had his way with them constantly.

Guys get over the rating stuff. Our Junior RB has offers from lots of D-1 schools, but you know what his star rating on scout is "1" i'm sure that will change after his Junior year for having over 2,700 total yds 2,544 rushing and 293yds in championship game. Maybe all this may sound like bull to most, but I'm just saying you can't go by STARS to know how good a player is. Most kids can't get out to combines like others and recieve such high ratings.

After all it was Monty who came to recruit Jackson at first, Dooley followed persuit and honestly I don't blame him you guys are getting a workhorse and a guy that will outplay a 5star player 10 out of 10 times.

No. According to LV he ran a 4.59 at a combine for a national event he was MVP of...

That is correct he ran a 4.59 his Senior year, most of the things rivals, and scouts have is OLD based on him. He weighs 215 now and is 6 '3. He is a great player and works hard.

There's definitely a rule...the teams that win titles are always among the most talented ones...

Yeah, but who is the end-all-be-all when it comes to evaluating the talent of high school football players? Rivals? Scout? ESPN? Maybe.

However, if you are dense enough to think that a kids with 5*'s after their names are the most talented, you probably deserve the anxiety that goes along with following the ridiculous world of recruiting.

Patrick Willis 3* > Chris Donald 5*

Martaze Jackson 3* > ?? 5*

Just sayin.

Generally, they are. There are plenty of exceptions but a much higher percentage of 5*s make it to the NFL than 3*s.

And the national champions are usually loaded with them...

I agree, nice pick up. Currently rated a high 3 star, close to a 4 star. Keep it up CDD! That makes us 18 recruits and counting. I think we get the allotted number of recruits this year.

Maybe he will work out, but this player was not recruited by Alabama or Auburn. He was recruited by UAB and South Alabama, and by La.Tech. Don't know why the big schools didn't go after him. He played HS ball about 40 minutes from Tuscaloosa.

this confirms your opinion:

Winning the DL MVP at the National Underclassman Combine was sophomore Martaze Jackson of Demopolis High School. Jackson, 6 feet 2 and 204 pounds, showed fantastic rush technique and speed during one-on-ones, and he also excelled during the combine events with a 10'1" broad, 32-inch vertical, 4.78 40, and 4.52 shuttle.

Wasn't recruit by Alabama or Auburn, only the smaller schools, UAB and South Alabama. Don't know why.
