New Commit: '17 MS 4* WR Jordan Murphy

Murphy IS NOT a 4* recruit. The only service that people should be using is 247 Sports to get their grades: Jordan Murphy, Hattiesburg, Wide Receiver

The thread title really needs to be changed to reflect this too. It should read 3* instead of 4*. Thanks!

So, is there a major recruiting service that ranks him as a 4*? Yes. Then he is considered a four star by a major recruiting service.

So, is he a 4* recruit? Yes.

Just because he isn't a 4* on the service you prefer doesn't mean he has not received a 4* ranking.

It's not the recruiting service I prefer buddy that counts. It's what VN goes by that counts in order what star status to give a recruit. I never said it was what I prefer.

I stated multiple times that it was 247 Sports composite that was preferred. Don't matter to me but that's how it supposed to work is all I know unless it's changed on here since 2015. Thanks!

Are you kidding?? If Murphy was a unanimous 4*, then he would automatically become good. I mean forget the fact that Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Auburn wanted him. Offer lists dont matter. Only what bologna says matters.

Another shot at me for what I've known about this for a while? I can handle it though. I'm a big boy! I'm easy to get along with really.

I like to even cut up. I just try to make a point or share my honest opinion sometimes & people go all haywire on me. It's not just on me. It's many others as well. This place is a wild horse stable at times! :)

I must've missed the memo that stated all of VolNation is to use the 247Composite and nothing else. Thanks.

I'm just saying it's been said many times by many fellow members to use 247 Sports composite when giving a recruit their star ranking status. It's ok to post/use other ranking services. I'm not trying to be a butt & say there's rules for that.

I'm just saying it's been this way for 247 Sports being used as the main one for at least the past 3 years if not longer. I've been a member here for 7 1/2 years so I would guess it's actually been closer to 4-5 years.

If you want to use an average or highest star status then leave it alone & keep it at that but it provides false averages when others are on here using 247 Sports to get a recruits star status.

It will cause the average star ranking for a class to not be right but whatever you want to do. Not trying to start an argument ok. Thanks!

I use 247 composite. Its recruiting so it's never going to be perfect. Using the average just seems like the least homerish way to go. Cherry picking the best rating from each service for each recruit seems silly to me. I'd like to see Rivals develop a "composite" type rating. Maybe I'd reconsider what I'd use. Before the composite on 247, I preferred Rivals ratings.

I go with the majority, which isn't the same as the composite.

My opinion is the composite allows one site to diminish a kid for not attending a certain camp/being in a region they don't focus on etc.

Any system where that factors in, seems as stupid as cherry picking.
If you have 2-4stars, 1 high 3 star and one low 3, I'll go with low 4. Example only.

It's all opinionated. A thought though, if one site bumps a player up because of a recent evaluation, is this bump dated by any of the sites?
