yeah, it's hard to argue that. as good as he was, and the NFL is a different animal, only 2 superbowl appearances in what, 6 appearances in the AFC title game was hard to stomach for a lot of Steeler fans.

in fact, there were a lot of Steeler fans that felt much the same way about Cowher as TN feel about CPF, prior to BC winning it all in 05.

he did it right, he ended on a positive note. i dont' know that CPF will get that chance.

Yes. What Stoops did at Oklahoma Venables will do to the program he goes to.

Any coach that can make people fear the Horned Frogs is good in my book.

Yes and I'm glad he got to go out like he wanted to. But I don't really want to see him in Orange.

Charlie Strong is one of those names that has popped up every year come November as a possible candidate at a variety of schools. Yet never seems to end up with the job. He may be a lousy interview (that was the rep on hoops coach Mike Anderson a perennial "remove name from consideration" finalist who finally landed at UAB and now Mizzou). Or he may just be waiting until he's got a shot a school that is a safer bet.

it seemed every year pittsburgh would be devastated by free agency, yet bill cohwer continued to field a competitive team . his consistency was unmatched. while other coaches are up and down(gruden) and excuses are made, such as not having a quarterback, his teams continued to win regardless of the names on the jerseys.

some fans' expectations are ridiculous. only 2 superbowl appearances in 6 afc title games? i guess it would have been better to go to 2 superbowls and win 1 but never have made the playoffs in the other years. he took pittsburgh to 6 afc title games, that's impressive. and when you consider those were different teams that he took to championship games and superbowls, it's all the more impressive. don't compare him with cpf. cohwer doesn't deserve that insult.

the next year pittsburgh was in the superbowl. if it wasn't for a quarterback forgetting that he didn't play for the cowboys, pittsburgh would have won that game.

sounds like CPF's "6 Eastern conf. championships" but only 2 SEC titles.

like i said, i think BC was great. the nfl is different. you have playoffs, division championships and conf. championships and then the superbowl....there's margins of success you can draw from what he was able to do in this day and age in the NFL.

but fan expectations are the same, no matter what.

going to an afc title game is much harder than winning an eastern division championship. apples and oranges.

Fulmer has done a great job recruiting now doubt, and that may be his biggest downfall.

Fulmer continuously refuses to put top prospects on the field when they are freshmen/soph.

Where are the players minus Eric Berry that were recruited so highly?

Now many people could feel that the time isn't right, or they are not ready. GOOD POINT!

BUT....

when you look at the top teams in the country, they seem to always find a way to put everybody on the field.

Put guys like Chris Walker, Donald, Paige, Creer, Vinson on the field for even 1 series. Then again a few series later.

Guys like Rico and Hefney deserve to play, but it doesn't mean others shouldn't, or can't get on the field.




My second part is recruiting. I just mentioned Fulmer being a great recruiter but why doesn't he seem to lock players up early? I know it's not even a guarentee, but it always seems like even for the next class we are only on long lists, we never have commitments early, or even the best players on the list have us on the list early.


Another reason he may be gone is that his style of football isn't working.

Tennessee shouldn't have to miss players coming here because of this. We aren't playing college type of football. It's too base orientated, and it's more for NFL/CFL style of football.

I don't agree with his style of play anymore.

Shottenheimer would be great in college ball. He consistently had better regular season records than most other coaches, but had a hard time in the playoffs. No playoffs in college ball, just win your bowl game.

At this point, it wouldn't hurt to clear the benches and put in as many people as possible to see who can play and who can't as we go into next season.

We don't have anything to play for except to fill out the schedule...

What Cowher would be a great coach and I believe he would love coaching at the college level. He has nothing left to prove at the NFL level and I think if the money is right, he may make knoxville home.
