Not a "bad" candidate, but I'd have some reservations about us hiring a guy with such loyalties to other/rival SEC schools.

That's what I like new blood. To me Phil's like family but after the FL loss (embarassment) I just don't see things improving. Maybe he can prove me wrong.

While I think a new coach is necessary, it's kind of silly to do all this wishfulthinking here. We can get excited about whomever we want, but what are the chances that MH actually interviews any of these people? I just don't want people to get caught up in lofty expectations of Gruden and the like and then be disappointed when we get Charlie Weis or someone comparable.

Tennessee is an elite job. Hamilton can get a very very good candidate to come to Tennessee. Why do so many of you all have a hard time understanding that?

He's turned UC from a joke to a Top 25 Program.
His coaching style is great, when you get the chance watch Cincinnati play, it will make you want this guy for UT.

We never hired Cut as a HC. A better analogy would have been Doug Dickey.

obviously we didn't. My point was we hired someone with other SEC ties, most notably Cut had Bama ties where he was a student assistant and coached at Ole Miss. Dickey simply went to Florida.

As for my pick for coach, I'd love Bo Pelini, hence the "bo knows football". I wouldn't say no to Brian Kelly though, or Dantonio, Venables, Gruden, Peterson, Patterson, or Leavitt, who i want more than Pelini, but he is the one I feel isn't coming no matter what.

He also coached at Florida before returning to UT as AD.
And I also would probably support Bo and his old coaching buddy, Jimbo Fisher.

Jimbo and Richt will be fighting it out over FSU's headcoaching spot in a year or two.

Polini or Venables for me.

yes he did. I was only concerning coaching standpoints. AD's fall under a completely different category in my book. Dickey's previous coaching career was at Arkansas if i'm not mistaken (b4 ark was SEC)

I checked wiki and the only schools mentioned that he coached for are UT and UF, no Arky.

Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame
Following graduation and a stint in the armed services, Dickey joined Frank Broyles' staff at the University of Arkansas, where he coached for six years. He was then offered and accepted the head football coaching position at the University of Tennessee by athletic director Bob Woodruff. Dickey remained at Tennessee for six years before returning to his alma mater, where he coached for another nine years.
