I keep hearing if we fire Pruitt (a first time head coach with a poor losing record) this somehow scares off great coaches. Must be a losers mindset. If I were a great coach that's exactly what I would want to see. A University that does not accept a piss poor product and can admit when it made a mistake and is willing to make a change in order to win for its players, alumni amd fans. Winning culture and accountability are attractive characteristics in a University dedicated on winning. This loser mindset has infiltrated this program and its fans. A long list of excuses for not winning is recycled yearly regardless of who the coach is and it's not acceptable.
Truth time...
Our starting QB sucks.
Our Legacy starting safety sucks.
Our coaches are outcoached with ease.
We have no identity as a team. There is absolutely nothing this team does consistently well. (Except the kicking game which is actually very good)
The team lacks discipline on the field. Stupid penalties and can't even line up correctly. My lord please make it stop!
There is no semblance of energy amongst the team (coaches included)
Minimal player development. (The guys that do perform well have done so since they arrived and are not getting better with age)
This is a recipe for a disaster. However, it's not a complete loss by any means. We all have seen the recruiting rankings and this team should not suck. Bad coaching hires and player development is by far the worst thing happening in Tennessee and ANY good coach sees this and should be salivating over the opportunity to take over this team.
If you're good at what you do as a leader it is contagious. These young men need to be challenged, they need to grow and develop, they need a culture change and they need to be given the tools to do so. The facilities are there, the fans and money is there, hell the players are there. They need a coach who cares about winning and will not accept or provide excuses for anything less. No more were young or it takes a few classes. A good coach wins 7 games easily this year with the young men wearing Orange every damn Saturday.
It's up to the Administration to make the change. Clean house if you must but prove to the country that the University of Tennessee will be a winning program and it will do everything it needs to do to get there. You get 100,000 plus fans per home game, top notch facilities and a team of very talented players. You dont get excuses, you don't get time to rebuild. You come in and get the remaining portion of this year amd next year goals are in place and results are nonnegotiable.
Any good coach sees at Tennessee, with everything the team has been through, that success will lead to becoming a legend. Who will be our next legendary coach?
