I read on another site that, Desmond Yates and Ryan Childress are also commited and plan on signing with the Vols! This is great news, BUT how in the world are we going to come with 2 more schollys inless they plan on releasing Tyler Smith and someone leaves the team? I'm (as usual) confused, can someone explain this or maybe I just can't comprend things like I think I can. :dunno:

Childress has signed with the Vols. Maurice Thomas said he spoke with Pearl and Tony Jones this morning and the papers should arrive for him to sign later today. Desmond Yates will very likely NOT be signing with Tennessee. Childress was not a highly recruited player. He is a 6'8 240lb Power Forward. He was signed with Pearl at UWM but asked out of his LOI when Pearl left. He had offers from schols like Tulsa, Depaul, Richmond, etc.

Childress has signed papers, Thomas is going to sign them as soon as he gets them (that was suppose to happen today), and Yates is suppose to sign at his athletic banquet. Why do you say Yates is not coming? Is that just you speculating? I haven't heard anywhere that said he wasn't. Maybe he isn't going to qualify because I know grades are a huge issue with Yates.

According to sources Yates will NOT be signing with UT. Childress is another typical Pearl recruit, Tough, good rebounder who can hit the 3

UT Sports Information

Basketball coach Bruce Pearl announced today that Ryan Childress has signed to play basketball at the University of Tennessee beginning with the 2005-06 season.

"I am really excited about having Ryan be my first signee at Tennessee," the first-year Tennessee head coach said. "He embodies so much of what I feel a player should possess. He's physically and mentally tough and he has the physical size to complement our roster. Ryan has worked extremely hard at his game and he wanted very badly to play for us at the University of Tennessee."

A 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward from Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Childress averaged 16.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while leading the Crusaders to a 22-4 record and the Division I state Final Four in 2004-05. Following the season he earned honorable mention all-state, second team all-district, first team Greater Catholic League of Cincinnati and was named to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Boys' Basketball All-Stars Division I first team.

A three-year starter for national high school power Moeller, Childress helped the Crusaders win a state championship as a sophomore and the following season they were nationally-ranked and posted a 22-3 record before being upset in the Elite Eight of the state tournament. Childress, who models his game after Ben Wallace of the Detroit Pistons, averaged 10 points and eight rebounds while earning second team All-GCL honors as a junior.

"The coaching staff was a huge sell for me," Childress said. "I love the coaches and the players there. The chance to play at the University of Tennessee with all of their tradition and in the SEC was just something that I could not pass up."

as much as i hear about Coach Pearl being able to develop players..i cant wait till what this team is gonna look like next year. And as far as Ryan Childress..He does seem to be like a Dane Bradshaw just 6-8..And i think that if Coach Pearl can get this guy to be more productive on offense..then he's gonna be a good one.

I am willing to give Pearl the benefit of the doubt but this guy doesn't look like a star to me - hopefully Pearl knows what he is doing. I know we all gave Buzz a hard time for signing Dotson away from Belmont and Tennessee Tech --not that there's anything wrong with that.

Ditto

As I posted before I can't wait to see Pearl's up beat offense!

Why is Thomas out? He seems more highly rated then Childress, what am I missing?

How did Thomas go from waiting to sign the papers either tonight or tomorrow to being out?

Just talked to Bruce at the B.O. Caravan. He was only handing out one scholly and for whatever reason, Childress is it. I can't answer what happened with Mo or Des.

CBP recruited Childress for UMW. He called the Childresses when he took the UT job and told them Ryan should keep his commitment to UMW. At that point, CBP walked away from the kid. UMW gave RC a release about a month ago and he was recruited by several mid-majors. when DePaul offered him, CBP said the hell with DePaul and called the Childresses (yesterday). They apparently cried while on the phone with Bruce and said they'd been praying for this call for 4 weeks. When asked what they could do, he asked them to drive to KTown. They left Cincinnati early this morning and arrived in K-Town mid-morning. RC apparently worked out at TBA with some of the team and was offered a scholly on the spot.

Bruce believes Ryan is much better than a mid-major player and thinks he is a steal. He believes his talents are better than advertised and his heart and leadership are unmatched. Now you know the rest of the story.

by the way Thomas has to be saying "not again, first UNLV and now this"

Yeah, it was cool and he is cool. I had all of 3 minutes to ask him about a dozen questions. This man is a riot, should have his own show on comedy central. I can't help but believe this man is the real thing. He has worked his ass off for 4 weeks and I guarantee, he's not doing all this to be a loser.

Thomas and his mom should have made themselves clear and should have returned the paperwork as promised. OTOH CBP is really high on Childress. He msut know something.

BTW don't forget to add UTEP to his previous commits.

I forgot about UTEP.

My question is did we ever send him the paperwork? He was supposed to be on Basillio's radio show today but cancelled. he said he was still waiting on the paperwork from us.
