New Anti Dooley Painting on rock....

Specifically, how does it hinder the program? Can you name one tangible way in which this harms the program?

Admittedly, it can't be helping recruiting. But there is no way to hide it.

Back in the 70s, Battles also sucked this bad. But all you heard was a story or two in the newspaper. Now with all this information available from everywhere, no way to hide anything.

JFK was humping every leg across the country and the media covered for him. Think about if the POTUS tried that these days with all the cameras and cell phones and twitter and what not. You can't hide much anymore.

Players see it. Players are asked about it. There is a game tomorrow. You don't think things like that can take away focus? Recruits see it. Parents of recruits see it. Best rb recruit for UT in years sees it. One we have a chance to sign. And you think that's its a positive?

It can't possibly hurt the program any worse than losing all the damn time has.

National pics of UT fans making fun of their coach doesn't make it worse? Some people don't even know if we won or lost last week, but they read about the HC family being hassled and see this type of stuff. I just don't see the need, that's all. Critique poor coaching. I do it. The rest isn't needed.

Is Green coming today? I haven't been to the recruitng forum in a month.

I always thought Bill Battles had it right...to paraphrase, "Class is when they are running you out of town and you make it look like you're leading the parade."

Derek knows that he has not achieved the success needed to maintain his job at this level. So we must make a change. And there is just no way to hide that, or to spin it positive for recruits. If I was AD, he would have been terminated on Monday. I think it is a mistake to let him swing in the breeze like this...that is what causes some ugly scenes. And there will be some tomorrow. I just hope no one throws a metal folding chair at him like they did thirty years ago.

Until they pull the plug, it will get worse before it gets better. That may be sad, but it is human nature. And with booze added to the mix.....makes it worse. And people are pizzed that he is taking $5 million of our money.

Freedom of speech people. It's a rock for the students to express whatever they want. And the rock never lies......this is what happens when the suck factor hits an all time high. Can't believe some you are so surprised by this.

Not surprised at all. That's the sad part. It's the norm now.

Wow. that is really good. I don't like that out there for all to see though.

Same here. Dooley sucks deserves to be painted on every building. If you don't like what is on the rock, go paint it. I thought it was funny and true. Fooley is failing at everything a head coach does.

Tough ****. They can see everything on the Internet. This does nothing.

If anything this is less visible than the dribble that gets posted around here.

Funny thing I have always cross posted pictures of the rock over on other forums. The non-UT fans love our use of the rock for recruiting and big games. Also they love our use of the rock for showing our displeasure. Never once have I heard any negative feedback outside of VolNation about any of the rock paintings.

While he knows that Dooley has one of the hottest seats in America I would be curious what he would think about the rock as is. You are right it could have a negative impact. Also he could say how passionate our fanbase is about football. That said the rock isn't going to decide if he picks Tennessee or not. Good chance if Jay Graham stays (which I believe he will even if Dooley is fired) is the more important than the rock.

Also if he picks us Dooley will not be his coach for the majority of his time here. I don't see Dooley get out of 2013 alive if he squeaks by this year. No recruit should be picking Tennessee hoping to play 4 years for Dooley.

Also the rock will be painted over before the game. So good chance he would never see it.

I think it's a we are in year 3 and no improvement frustration. That has these kids painting the rock

Flame away!![/QUOTE]

Childish, I'd have security cams all over the place and have all unauthorized painters prosecuted or encase it, where nobody unauthorized could get to it. That's what we did in the areas I was stationed at, where the military was less popular or protestors frequented, stopped 99% of the vandalism. Those are part of my tax dollars wasted repainting it.

Do you love the freedom of speech the rock provides? Why can't people deal with the truth. Dooley has only out coached tom O'Brien this year. He's made every mistake out there this year. The militaristic policies have no place in our republic.

Worst idea ever.

This is not vandalism. This is the purpose of the rock. The tradition. So you going to stop everyone from painting the rock now? Or are you just going to allow people to paint it that you approve of? Doesn't work that way.

I think this one is better than the fooley one.

Yeah!!!!! Police state!!!!

People like you make me sick to my stomach.

So, according to some posters, it's okay for 18-21-year-olds to make mistakes, be immature and show poor judgment on the field (and apartment balconies), because they're just "kids," but it's not okay for them to paint their opinions on the rock, because that shows immaturity and poor judgment?

And negative performance on the field does not hurt recruiting, but negative messaging on the rock does hurt recruiting? The main thing hurting recruiting is the abysmal W-L record found all over the internet. I wish someone could paint over that.
