Never thought I would say this.

Im still a fan, but I dont plan my Saturdays around football anymore. I dont turn down plans if the game is on like I used to.

This is me.
43. Die hard fan since 87.
Something snapped in me a year ago and I just stopped planning my days around the games. I learned we lost after getting back to my condo from the beach cause I didn’t even care to watch the game. I figured it would be a close win and bad football...was surprised we lost but not shocked.
I just don’t care to watch the games anymore. I am not wired to care about ppl who don’t care about me and the school does not care about their fans....it’s damn obvious.

I'm 28 too and I don't want to quit. Damn I love Tennessee Football. It just hurts so bad.

Ok, honest question...

How can u possibly love TN football? You were like 10 in 2001 when we were last good. What have you even seen in your lifetime that makes u love this team?

Us old folks on here are hanging onto glory days but u don’t even have that. You just got the crap end of cpf years and then crap and more crap. What made u love this team?

4-8 season did it for me. That year is when I stopped watching games till the end, and stopped planning my Saturdays around watching football. I thought this year might be different so I dipped out of work early yesterday. The Negavol inside me is now going "told you so". I'm almost glad I don't live in Knoxville anymore because I'd be pissed at all the money I would be throwing away going to games.

You matured faster than me. I'm 61 and pulled the plug on football 7 years ago (both college and NFL). It just came over me how unimportant it is to everyday life and how silly it is to ride your emotions on the performance of others.

That said I did watch the game yesterday. I was amazed that Georgia State had better players/athletes than us at nearly every position. And seemingly far better coaches than us.

Let me get this right, we pay our head coach almost $4M a year and our Offensive Coordinator over $1M a year, we spend more $ on recruiting than ANY other team in the country and we just paid a team from the Sunbelt conference that was 2-9 last season $950k to embarrass us on our home field? That would get any CEO from a major Corporation fired come Monday morning.

I just turned 40 grew up on UT football i thought the 90’s run would be the norm and winning SEC titles and competing for them and National titles on a yearly basis never thought it would ever get this bad. but I think the program is broken beyond repair now and dead. We are what Minnesota was and has become a once traditional SEC power that is now extinct. I can’t blame any fan for bowing and not watching another game this season.
As John Ward used to say "Bottom".

I haven’t been on here in a while. This is my first post in a long time. I lost interest the day we hired Pruitt. I stopped watching every game last year. I worked yesterday instead. I took the time out of my day to watch the second UT drive. After that impressive drive I thought we might be onto something. I put my phone down and checked in to see the half time score. I can’t say I was in shock. I have no expectations, at least not that UT is going to play football. The players have no heart. We have no depth still. Year after year we have to rebuild from scrap. You can’t compete in the SEC like that. I am done until watching until UT produces. We had plans to go to a game this year. My plans just changed.

Pruitt hardly sweats as the GS coach did, but with his seat getting hotter and his player's showing little heart, maybe a lil' sweat will start appearing. Best way to get off the hot seat is constant Gatorade baths at the end of games. There may be no Gatorade in Knoxville this season.

Look guys, everyone has had a bad loss. Michigan lost to an FCS team and got blown out by a mediocre orgeron team, but still won 9 games that year. Mighty Nick Saban lost to UL Monroe in 2007, but he's gone on to be pretty good. South Carolina just lost to a 2 win north Carolina who wasn't much better than Georgia state last year. Missouri lost to Wyoming, a team they beat by 27 last year. Georgia southern vs Florida in 2013, James Madison vs Virginia tech in 2010, both of those teams have rebounded and won division titles since then.

All that said, it doesn't excuse yesterday. We have to get a lot better, and we have to get a lot better very quickly. But, I just looked outside and the sun did in fact come up, which means this is another day we have to get to work. Let's hope this loss lights a fire in them. This loss is a test, we'll see how they respond. If they take this adversity in stride and get better, then we'll be fine. If they dwell on it and let it control them, then we're in for trouble. Either way, we'll know soon.

I'm 29 and remember watching games at 4-5 (early 1990s). I really remember 1998 as I went to my first game that year. I'm a third generation UT alum so I grew up around it.

I don't even know what to do.

Waiting for Tennessee to be good again is the definition of insanity. I’m out.
Me to buddy. I simply can’t understand how high school stars can come to UT a just forget how to play football. I’m 63 and I’ve been a fan since age 13. No more, I’m done with these fools that think JG is a good QB and he takes a slide 1 yd short of the sticks. That was it for me. He’s just another one of butch’s mistakes. Not just him though. The whole damn bunch sucks.

Cant believe I have so many likes for basically a "Im done" post.

VN is broken.

It was a pretty well written post that stated what many are feeling,

I waited a day before posting.

For some it’s been a slow erosion of hope and for others it’s a single moment in time...when you suddenly realize it’s not coming back. Mine has been a slow erosion. I have a 10 year old and it’s easy to see the world through his eyes. He was all orange yesterday at the game and he loves it because I’ve always loved it...but the reality is, his eyes are asking “why” and I don’t have a good answer any more.

Season tickets for 40 years....UT grad, etc, etc, it’s just not what it was. The University of Tennessee will always be a part of our family and my life but I do not expect fall Saturday’s to ever be what they once were. I also do not expect my son to invest in the program the way I did. It’ll be hard to give up the seats if it comes to that.

I just don’t understand it. How did it get to this point without someone taking action? There are so many people who love that dam place it seems unfathomable the program could fall to such depths. The joke about our coach being a bama plant...logic says there is literally zero chance that’s reality and yet he acts and speaks emotionless and indifferent to the worse lost I’ve ever witnessed.

UT football is just a business now I think. Spreadsheets and ratios and margins have replaced family, loyalty, tradition, pride. The people on the hill see a successful program by their measures and we see a shell of something we love.

TL/DR = worse loss ever and needed to vent, thanks.

That was the worst part about yesterday, was that even sitting in the stadium, watching that foolishness, by the end I literally didnt care. I wasnt even mad, nor really even surprised. Just a kind of malaise, and vague gladness that I had postponed my quest for club seats under the pressbox. Lots of better ways to spend that kind of $. I have employees who would love to go to games, but I can't justify wasting a whole Saturday. I can't sell the tickets anyway, they arent worth the paper they're printed on right now so they can have them. There's always next year!

I'm 66 and in bad health. I really wanted to see a change this year. I wasn't expecting 9 wins hell even 8 wins but I was expecting improvement. I'm real sad now that reality has finally sunk in and I'm never going to get to enjoy sataudays in the fall. They have broke me not because they lost but the way they lost. You can blame the Coaches or blame the administration even the players but the desire to win has been lost at Tennessee. I'm thru!!

I'm 65, I watched Condridge Holloway and the Vols outplay Alabama all day, in Neyland Stadium, it might have been 1971 or so - and Alabama got a turnover in the last 4 minutes or so of the game, went down the field and scored and won, pulled it out against a team that THAT DAY played their hearts out, had lessor talent and still played great. Defense got standing ovations all day long for stopping Alabama. Listening to this game yesterday and our announcers on radio, we got run over. That last 22 yard touchdown by their quarterback - I'm sitting here shaking my head - disbelief - they flat ran all over us. At times I couldn't hear ANY fans cheering at all and no wonder why. Lastly, and I harped on this yesterday even though I rarely comment and enjoy reading everyone else's posts...... that "3rd down Guns & Roses" crapola is nauseating after the 1st time they do it, and if this team and this defense was playing like a "Tennessee" defense - and playing their hearts out against an Alabama or Georgia or Florida team, MAYBE that blaring music would be appropriate ONCE in a while on a REALLY important 3rd down. Other than that, its like mimicking a Pro Football Team when we don't even look like a decent college team..... and I'll readily admit up front, maybe it's me.

Good post.
It sux for what should be the next generation of UT fans.

It sucks. We should have won . . . Easily. We didn't. It's not over. Life doesn't end. It's one game. Step back from the ledge.
It not just one game. Where have you been the last 10 years? Everybody thought this was going to be an easy when. This loss will make it very hard to get to a bowl game. Tis it might be the season killer for a bowl.

I quit living and dying with it a long time ago. Sold my Titans PSLs, quit going to 20-25 Preds games per season and I quit letting these UT losses tear me up. That was a lot of money and time spent watching other people play sports only to come away from it feeling like my dog just died after another bad loss.

If they do well I am happy for them and if they lose, I hope they get better and win the next one. I don’t let it affect me anymore.

This is were I checked out.....getting beat by players we would even let in our three deep.

I understand in a rebuild losing to high power teams, but we have struggled with everyone for the last decade. We carried our QB off the field when we beat UAB. I mean holy crap!
