NEVER schedule GA Tech

TN vs Tech

This game has the potential to be ugly, but also has the potential to set the tone for the season. Alot of guys are getting their first shot at being the leaders and starters of this football team. That includes the guy playing the most important position, QB. Its part of the reason why Dormady is the unquestioned starter in my mind. Though he doesn't have much experience, he is more familiar with gameday environment and preparing as if he may play.

A lose here wouldn't be the end of the world. It may just be a hard lesson learned and force guys to step it up.

On another note...tickets are out the roof right now. Nosebleeds are $180...looks like I am staying home.

Butch has weeks to prepare for the triple option. So I think he'll have an advantage with this being the first game of the season.

9 in a box, corners on an island. Everyone does their job.

And GA Tech isn't the only team that can play keep away with the ball. We can go long punishing drives too.

Yes sir. Or, with Dormady and these receivers throw it around a little. Either way, the offense HAS to show up. I still think we need around 35 points to beat this team. Maybe a little less if we attempt and are successful at running it down their throats. That will shorten the game and we may not need quite that many points.

That would be another good topic of discussion. Are we gonna be more of a run team behind Kelley or are we gonna lean more on the pass? I'm talking about when we play teams equal in talent to us. What will be our bread and butter??

I feel like we'll win but not an optimal opponent. Cut blocking can crap on your whole season as a player. You spend time preparing for an offense that you're never going to see again through out the year. We play Bama every single year if we're going to schedule a good OOC opponent I'd rather it be a more traditional offense and a decent team. I could see Tennessee winning this game and there season suffering due to an injury to a key defensive player. JMO though.

if we need 35 points to beat any team there is a problem.

Some teams are more talented/better coached on one side of the ball than the other. Some teams are very good offensively and you will have to score x amount of points to get the W because there is no way you can shut them down. Some teams ( will muschamp coached teams for instance ) are very good defensively and poor offensively and the amount of points you may need to win is less. GA tech leans on their offense imo. We will not shut them down imo. I'm hoping we hold them under 30, I think that is definitely reasonable. Look at the super bowl last year. New England needed 29 to win that game. I guarantee you that belicek doesn't like giving up 28 points, he comes from the defensive side of the ball. Guess what? Atlanta last year was a Juggernaut on offense. Decent on defense but nasty on offense. Nobody was gonna shut them down most likely. New England's offense had to show up and help their defense out or they lose. I feel the same way about this game

I'm worried about the cut blocking, hopefully the Vols come out of this game healthy, that is the main thing

the Vols should win,I think

A GA Tech athletic board member has told me Tennessee is NOT the Home team for this game. GT was the "arbitrary" Home team pick for this neutral site.

Heard talk that if the stadium wasn't finished the game might be played at Tech and it would make for a rare situation because Tech would be the away team playing at home. If we are away then I hope we wear the storm troopers

Appy State- had to go to OT to win
Ohio- only won by 9
Lost to SC
Lost to Vandy

Georgia Tech is better than the first 2 and about equal to the last 2

All that with a team picked to win the east and darkhorse for the NC

Some vol fans need to wake up and realize the reality of our situation

This makes way to much since. Speak any more truth like this again and will call the cops!

tell yaldy I said howdy.

Don't like this game at all. Name of the game for us is long sustained drives, wear down Tech's defense. Keep their offense off the field and absolutely dominate time of possession.

Actually, I think the name of the game against triple option teams is this: get ahead by 2 scores early, then just have fun playing ball the rest of the game.

Once a wishbone team is two scores down, a sense of feverish desperation settles in on the far sideline. With good reason: it's a ball control scheme, not a scoring scheme. Once they've lost control, there's not much left they can do.

Vols should win this game. It is not a 50/50 game going in IMO.

But, I also will say this. After last season's defensive debacle, Shoop cannot afford for this team to come out in the first game looking lost. And, if for some reason it does, then we are in a lot of trouble for the entire season. I don't care if there are unique challenges with the triple option. Shoop needs to show that his defense can understand and execute assignments, which it utterly failed to do most of last season.

I believe you are right. Check out these highlights from the Miami game last year. If our front 7 can disrupt GT's plays before they have time to develop, we should win this game.

You do not face the triple in the sec. You most likely will never face it in a playoff ( the ACC and GA will take care of tech because they face it every year and know exactly how to contain/stop them ). If the athletic department scheduled this game while Paul Johnson was coach at tech, it may be regretting that decision in the near future. There is a difference between knowing what to do and still having to think about it to be sure, and knowing to the point that it comes natural and you can play fast. Those acc teams and ga have faced it enough that they know and play fast. We haven't.

This game in my mind is 50/50 for both teams, UT and CBJ with the most to lose. If we still had dobbs, I would be a UT lean, 60/40. We are gonna need plenty of offense to keep up with tech. Dobbs leading this offense would have given me the confidence that we wouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot, and put at least 35 on the board. We are gonna need 35 points to win this game imo. Idk if we can count on that with Dobbs gone.

Folks, if we escape with the W, be happy. Be very very Happy. I don't care if it takes a miracle catch or tech giving us the ball 6 times for no good reason for us to get the W. I'll take it any way I can get it against this offense and this team.

Yeah, Dobbs was so great last year against App. St., Ohio, Bama, USCjr.

Triple option sucks..

Only thing that worries me about tech is them chop blocking and injuring someone we need for the season.

Why would you not want your team playing risky games? No one can be truly successful unless they push themselves to compete against the best, or at least the best at what they do, and GT run one of the best triple options in the nation.

I think, for this game, there is no upside. Great potential for our players to get hurt. Waste of time for planning because we wont prepare for that scheme again.

No upside

They shouldn't have scheduled Tech. It's not about whether or not Tech is a legitimate threat. It's about having a gimmick offense when there is no reason to.

I hope Tennessee wins, but nothing they learn from that game will help them in the future games...

Should never schedule a game against a team that cut blocks like GT does. There is a chance they could take out all of our starting DT's in the first game. Stupid decision to play GT.
