NEVER schedule GA Tech

TN vs Tech

Everybody keeps talking about the flexbone and the preparation for their offense. What do we know about their defense?

Hey OP are you scared of GA Tech?

Because you seem pretty scared of GA Tech.

Speaking for myself I don't fear a GT, but I question the wisdom of those that chose to schedule it. There's no up side to playing them, unless we'll have a better idea of navigating in Atlanta. Playing out of conference should be an opportunity to ambush a ranked team for a power play. This is just giving a lesser team of little value a chance to beat an SEC team so they can brag it up. If you want to appear strong engage the strong and defeat them.

Losing to GT wouldn't mean much in the grand scheme of the season for us (like if it's our only loss).

*Not that I want to lose to GT, my BIL is a fan and will be at the game with me (in the Tennessee section)

I agree with OP. I don't like this game. The only reason I see for scheduling this is that it increases our television exposure to recruits in the state of Georgia.

Are you in the group of our fans that think we should take Alabama off the schedule too?

I hated the Orgeon games and having to play Oklahoma coming off their (upset) win against Bama. But, I'd rather go through with that than the NC St buyout because I don't like backing down.

That's just my way though.

You do not face the triple in the sec. You most likely will never face it in a playoff ( the ACC and GA will take care of tech because they face it every year and know exactly how to contain/stop them ). If the athletic department scheduled this game while Paul Johnson was coach at tech, it may be regretting that decision in the near future. There is a difference between knowing what to do and still having to think about it to be sure, and knowing to the point that it comes natural and you can play fast. Those acc teams and ga have faced it enough that they know and play fast. We haven't.

This game in my mind is 50/50 for both teams, UT and CBJ with the most to lose. If we still had dobbs, I would be a UT lean, 60/40. We are gonna need plenty of offense to keep up with tech. Dobbs leading this offense would have given me the confidence that we wouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot, and put at least 35 on the board. We are gonna need 35 points to win this game imo. Idk if we can count on that with Dobbs gone.

Folks, if we escape with the W, be happy. Be very very Happy. I don't care if it takes a miracle catch or tech giving us the ball 6 times for no good reason for us to get the W. I'll take it any way I can get it against this offense and this team.

You're trying to reason with the fanbase who's team plays Alabama, a perennial championship contender, every year because it's a "rivalry" game. Meaning some of actually remember the last time we beat them.

My prediction: GT will jump on us 14-3 early. If Kongbo is starting, he will struggle. We start to figure things out and ultimately win 31-21. They lay it on the ground a couple of times and we make them pay. Kyle Phillips plays great.

Oh, Oh, we're playing Georgia Tech:

I'm askeered, I'm askeered!

I was scared of SC last year, and we lost. I wasn't scared of Appy State and we almost lost. I think back to the year we had Manning and a very solid team and we lost to Memphis. I wasn't scared at all of Memphis. I was scared of the Nebraska bowl game a little bit and we handled them. I don't think being scared has anything to do with it. At least for me.

WHY is everyone so scared of GT??? It's ASSIGNMENT FOOTBALL. Play your keys and ONLY YOUR responsibilities. Be disciplined and aggressive...We will have to use our hands to push GTS helmets away and keep our feet. Get upfield with inside out pursuit. Where the head goes...the body will follow. See your keys and arrive violently with nasty intentions. Guessing is what get folks in trouble with these cats.

If we can get off blocks and stay disciplined, I completely agree with you. I don't think we can. They execute too well. Imo if we play back and trust the players to shed blocks and stay disciplined, we give up 400 rushing and 31 to 35 points

The coaches say "It's less Xs & Os, and more Jimmys & Joes. But, the fans give us this.

If this were always true in college football, why did Air Force run all over us? By every measuring stick I can imagine, UT had way more talent than air force. Think about that. Air Force. Not Nebraska under Osborne.... Air Force

The GT message board has an interesting thread on this game. One of the comments was about a fantasy outcome in the game (below). They seem to cover the game pretty well and perhaps to our OP's dismay are seemingly enjoying the lead up to game day.

"Well, it really seemed once Butch Jones lost self control early in the first quarter after Tech ran 12 consecutive dives and scored that his team lost self control too. I didn't see anything illegal or underhanded that Tech did on that drive - no Tennessee defensive linemen got hurt, but the 8 who ended up on the ground were all pancakes. I think Butch was probably more embarrassed than anything else. But when you get an unsportsmanlike penalty and then kicked out of the game, you're not doing your own team any favors. Especially not when theres still 10 minutes left in the very first quarter. And that video of him stopping at the exit to yell one more time at the refs and then slipping and falling and losing his false teeth that nobody knew about are gonna leave a mark."

No upside? We will be the only team playing on Monday because of this deal so everyone will be watching. We get $2.85 million for playing this game. We will be the home team which means we can invite recruits. Know if there are any good HS players in the Atlanta area that might use an official visit since the game is close but they wouldn't come all the way to Knoxville? I mean since GA has the 4th most talent behind CA, TX, and FL.
