Just got back from a local bar where one of our coaches was on the phone for quite some time (30 minutes) with the dad of a QB named Tommy. I'm guessing it's Tommy Rees seeing that Lake Forest is only minutes from Purdue. Very interesting conversation from what I could hear. The coach said this kid had the most zip on the ball coming out of his hand they had evaled. Dad was concerned that they had offered Hendrix, but the coach was not to concerned with Hendrix committing. From my eavesdrooping this is the kid they really want.

Evertime I see one of our coaches there, they are constantly on the phone. I guess recruiting never stops. Anyone else had a similar experience with our coaches?

Me neither. But I usually don't spend my time in a bar eavesdropping on other folks conversations.

I'd be willing to bet that after almost every conversation our staff has you'd be think that they're our guy.

Just reading your post, I feel somewhat like a fifth wheel.

Am I the only one that gets annoyed as hell when I'm in a public place (restaurant, bar, etc) and someone has an extended cell conversation? If it's that damn important go outside. Seriously.

Rant over. Continue......

Not really the word I was intending to use, "eavesdropping." But it was hard not to listen to a conversation with one of the coaches next to you at the bar. It was actually pretty cool experiencing instead of reading. Also, i would have signed on the dotted line then and there.

I hear ya, I was just busting your chops. Most of us in here would love to be able to "eavesdrop" on such conversations.

Which coach was it?

I'm pretty sure that cell phones have turned the whole notion of "eavesdropping" into a complete anachronism. You're either having a sensitive conversation, in which case it's your duty to take it outside and lower your voice to keep it confidential, or you're fine with somebody holding a microphone up to it and posting a transcription on the internet. The responsibility lies with the guy with he cell in his hand, not some guy sitting two seats down from him in a bar.

How do you know the other side of the conversation? You make a point, like you know both sides?

I don't know both sides of the conversation nor have I said so. I was just making assumptions (I'm sure your refering to Hendrix) based on what I heard. Everybody ease up, I am not a guru, rivals/scout writer or anything in between. I am just relaying what I heard while drinking a beer tonight (or two).:peace2:

Good work, Tripper! Drew's coach, I presume.

Did you buy him a beer?

Correct. Funny thing, my friend got there first and he started talking about what golf courses he should play. My friend had a small conversation and said "don't I know you from somwhere?" I absolutely laughed my ass off, but the truth is "the coach" looks" like that mistakeable person. Very reserved and not in the best of shape, but a hell of a nice person.

On our staff, he is the least distinguishable in a crowd.

Did he get excited on the phone or was he just all matter of a fact about the whole deal?

How do I say this? Their conversation was very animated in a positive way (30 minutes at least that i saw). The "coach" could keep up with CEO on any give day in terms of the vocabulary used. It was freakin' awesome because my sense was that the other end of the party was enjoying the conversation. From my perception, I think it was Hendrix that was the stumbling block (basically, you offered him before us scenario) but I feel from what I heard that it would not be a problem. I really never heard of this guy before but evidently he is high on the radar. Take a look at his offers. He is a 3* fixing to become a 4*.

Clearly Chaney was the man on the phone as he is quite articulate....much more so than the other coaches.

But, dude, how about writing in unencrypted sentences. That would really help move the conversations along.
