I was there 2 years ago. it still gets to me.December 2001 I visited Ground Zero while staying in NYC. I walked all the way down to the fence line surrounding the debris field that was guarded by the National Guard. There was a crowd gathered on the steps of St Peter's Church on Barclay street just watching the clean up. The fence was covered with photos of those missing and the crowd that gathered to look was eerily quiet. That's one thing that stands out to me is how quiet it was. RIP
I actually got to NYC via a train from Virginia. I was meeting up with my family there. I remember entering Grand Central station and the entire complex being full of military guys armed to the teeth. Was very weird experience. I don't think people now realize how we were on super high alert of more terrorist attacks.I was there 2 years ago. it still gets to me.
