Neuheisel bashing Butch over Scott hire.

I think we are going to see a lot of articles and stories bashing Butch this year. Underperforming season, falling recruiting class despite in-state talent, pedestrian coaching hires(except Charlton Warren..he was an improvement), poor game management, poor strength and condition management, and failure to replace marquee players on both sides of the ball will spell the end of Butch.

I'm sure that wouldn't save him if the season was a flop. I think he liked Scott as OC when he hired him to begin with

That's true. I guess what I was really trying to say is that it might look better on Butch if he were going to be looking for another job. He can use that as a reason things went bad.

It's butch's offense and Scott has been on staff. If he thinks Larry Scott is the best person to run the offense, I'll trust him. For all the criticism of Butch, saying he's a control freak, his system doesn't work, etc, his offense is really prolific. I feel like we were somewhat hamstrung by the AD mess but I feel like butch is really comfortable with Scott at the helm. Say what you want about him hiring a known commodity or a buddy hire but it's his offense and he's better off going with someone he is comfortable with instead of going outside his comfort zone and making a hire like fulmer did with clawson.

Was just listening to SXM College sports channel 84.
The host, former Coach Rick Neuheisel said that Scott hire is very dangerous because he hasn't been an OC before.
Said we should have hired Lincoln Riley.
Said despite Butch being on hot seat that UT is big enuf name and has enuf money to get a bigger name and more experienced person at OC than Scott.

I wonder why old Rick is not coaching anymore think it might be because of some of his hires.:eek:lol:

Why would anyone that is anyone come to UT right now. With the instability at the top and the lack of leadership to find replacements I do not blame anyone for not coming. Butch probably realized that Scott was the best he was going to be able to do. I just hope it all works out.

Assistant coach's don't sign long term contracts so that is irrelevant. Butch isn't hiring anyone on offense that he would view as a threat or someone who wants total control of the offense which Butch would never let happen. Exactly why he will hire bigger name and more experienced defensive coach's. Nobody with any sense buts the who nobody wants to come here because of the lack of an AD. He had better options at OC and definitely at QB Coach but opted to stick with familiarity. But take LSU who has spent 3.3 million of a big name OC and DC. Just like Saban,Meyer,Stoops and others who hire great coach's around them. Then we have Butch who has yet to hire a big time OC and QB Coach.

Rick
Has mentioned many times he wants back in coaching but thinks AD consider him too old. Maybe he threw his name into Butch's resume pool and it sank

I think Scott is the perfect scapegoat for Butch if things don't go as he hopes. Can point to first year OC and buy himself more time. JMO.

That excuse won't buy him more time..It will be looked at yet another head scratching hire made by Butch and that's on him.

Remind me again, which quatrain is that from?

Not a Neuheisel fan and don't know about Riley coming here but he isn't wrong on UT having enough draw to get a big name.

It's abundantly clear that will never happen on the offense while Jones is in charge however.

Kind of a dead argument until Scott puts the headset on against GA Tech at this point.

Yeah, Rick was such an outstanding success as HC (87-59), and he was able to draw on his experience as an OC. 21-29 at UCLA in his last HC gig - that's a wealth of experience to draw opinion from.

Think Rick knows he has been back-pocketed by Butch?

This is the same dude that was going to make UCLA the place to play football in Cali and never beat SC.

meh. his job now isn't to be right or wrong. just get a debate started about whether it's right or wrong. file this in the category of "who cares". it's done. this is the horse we're riding.

Agree with this 100%.
There was an article somewhere on this endless site the other day, with a coach agreeing with the hire. And he was not right or wrong either, only inciting debate.

I guess it works though, we all rush right back in and restate the opinions that we've already given on at least four other threads.

coaches on the hot seat like butch and gus malzhan can't attract big time coordinators---too much risk
