There has been a lot of dicussion before on why Skyler White is an almost universally loathed character among men. Anna Gunn and a lot of women say it is just because she is a strong independent woman, but that is bullcrap, while watching through Breaking Bad again I have gotten to season 3 and while watching episode 2, 3 and 4 it occured to me why I and I believe nearly every man who ever watched the show utterly hates her...
It is not just because she is a annoying nag, or a strong foil to Walter..it is because she is a self righteous hypocrite, a lowlife cheater and a vindictive witch.
Whatever Walter was, he was not a philanderer, and sleeping with a guy who was also a criminal albeit a "acceptable criminal" is such hypocrisy. I despise the character and her lowlife thief sister more than any on the show, and that includes the cartel and Walter. I pretty much hate him too...but at least he wasn't a cheating pig.
She is just as evil as Walter and much more loathsome to me..
Walter was obviously flawed, but some of the hate and evil barbs towards him is misguided. Without Jesse, Walter has the perfect business arrangement with Gus and a smooth course to his inevitable end without drama...or undue pain. Jesse chose to go after Guss drug dealers and Gus chose them over Walter. He saves Jesse and ends up having to trick him to get out of the mess borne from the odd pairing of Jesse and Mike. Everything that ended up aggravating Jesses insane hatred of Walter was a result of him choosing the side that wanted to murder him over his former teacher...who never stopped trying to take care of him. Not all cut and dry, of course but Walter White wasnt really a monster...of his own accord...only by circumstances he was forced into.
Interesting take and my feelings toward Walter are based on his justification of evil, his harsh circumstances notwithstanding, but the real topic I wanted to discuss is Skyler. I think her ongoing emasculation of Walter is mostly to blame for his desire for strength. She wanted him around as long as he was a docile little milquetoast.
Not entirely Netflix, but binge watching The 100 right now on NF.
I tend to like the post apocalyptic type of stuff. This one is pretty good so far into Season 2.
I like that stuff a lot too. Really enjoyed The 100, though I can't stand Clarke. Lol
The Rain is an ok post apocalyptic show on Netflix if you don't mind subtitles, and The 3% is alright, again if you don't mind subtitles.
Give The Rain a shot
I'll check it out. I've got 3% on my watchlist. Up to the end of Season 2 of the 100 at the moment where Lexa just did her deal and walked.
Still not sure I'm buying the Goody-Goody Girl turned Heartless Satan in Clarke. Raven, yeah. Octavia, absolutely.
One thing my wife and I noted at the end of The Staircase was how consumed with hate the wife's sister had become. She just seems unhinged and people are looking at her like you look at the cat lady on the bus telling you her life story. They are sympathetic and slightly embarrassed for her and hoping this stops soon.
