negative vs. realistic

Nega-Vol and Realistic fans are not the same.

A nega-vol is someone who keeps harping on how bad this season is going to be; and almost seems to be hoping for losses to prove their point.

A realisitc fan is someone who has already accepted that Tennessee's football team is not going to be favored in very many games this season, and is now looking forward to the team trying their best in every game and hoping for some surpirsing results.

If he fails, he may not get another opportunity like this again.

A lot of people would choose to wait and avoid being set up for failure

No. If he gets fired after a few years another small school would snatch him up.

I think the point we so-called "blind optimists" are making is that there is no problem with being realistic. But there are realistic ideas going both ways with this team, both positive and negative. Some on the negative side are equally non-objective as the real blind optimists. There needs to be a balance.

The problem I have is with comments like "Tennessee is going to suck this year" versus "I think Tennessee may struggle based on this evidence." Those are the people I wish would stay off of these boards.

Great Post!

I doubt anyone wants UT to lose to be proven right. I hope to be wrong and I will GLADLY come on here and eat crow and let anyone blast me and I'll take it.

Threads like these make me wish we could revert back to a time when internet didn't exist. Sigh.

This thread is pretty awful.

BUT we've got power, power to manipulate what we will or won't ruminate. One is to not log on at all, another is to skip and skim what you read. We have the power of choice. :whistling: Tune of "Take It To The Lord in Prayer".

Oh we have power to choose, yes we do. Click the remote to your TV, DVD player, or even the VCR. We have power to choose. Close your browser or visit another URL, we have power, yes we do. Even to not turn on the computer because we have power, power to choose. Power, yes, power, we have power to manipulate what we will or won't ruminate. :whistling:

Man I got to thank you guys for giving me a real fun. I was ready to be bored but now know I only need to log onto this fun house.

Ok.

You want realism. It's not going to be fun for a while.

But, everyone already knew that. No one would be able to fix this problem overnight.

dooley had the testicular fortitude to take the job knowing he might get fired in three years because he was left jack squat.

The most important days for tennessee football in the next few years will be in 2/11, 2/12, and 2/13.

So, sit back. Hope the man who had the guts to accept the challenge succeeds and remember these days when the day arrives that tennessee is back to where you all want them to be

Hey for 2 million dollars, I'd have a lot of "testicular fortitude" too. Quit making Dooley out to be a martyr.

He's getting paid very well to do a job. If he can't, someone else will be hired who can.

What I find really funny is a gator fan preaching patience. Ron Zook wonders where all that patience was when he was the HC in Gainesville.

"That was so terrible, I think you gave me cancer!"

Yeah, the program zook inherited and tenn's current situation are comparable.

If you are talking about people who knocked him before he coached a game.... I would agree. It was sad and I wasn't one of them.

But, the florida job was not a fixer upper

Still don't get why Florida fans feel the need to try to act as a voice of reason over here.

Not to become a defender of Gators (aaaccckkk!) but in WWI, German soldiers waved a white flag and sent a man out into no man's land to invite the enemy to a Christmas gathering. They sang Christmas songs. Shared their meager food rations. Exchanged gifts. Helped each other bury their dead. For several days they treated each other with honor and as human beings. Showed each other pictures of girlfriends, family members. Unfortunately, the superior officers ended and forbade fraternizing with the enemy. And you know the rest, right on up to WWII. So? The point is, even enemies can exhibit a sense of honor, dignity, and respect for an opponent. Hopefully, we have fans with this moral fiber when we're up and Florida is down.

not it!!!

Hey, I have found your board amusing for several years, and enjoy the depth of your passion for the Vols. I always cheered for the SEC and anyone playing against TN. However, this year, I think there is something worth rooting for. I've lived here since 96 and everything has always been good natured. I'd like to see Dooley bring back a program that has been in steady decline since 2000. I have respect for your program that Fulmer never garnered, and well Lame Kitten was another story.

The one who yelled "iceberg ahead" was being realistic.

The one who said "this ship will never make it across the Atlantic" before it left port was being negative.

I understand the doom and gloom. There is no sense in trying to talk people into or out of liking the guy. He is paid handsomely to do a job most people would do for free. He isn't a victim. We needed a coach and he is it.

Personally I like the staff. I like the organization, and I like how he handled the bar incident. On the recruiting front he is going to have to step it up to compete.

As far as all the titantic talk....we hit the iceburg a long time ago. The 2010 season was an absolute wash before Kiffin was ever hired. UT will be an 8-4 team (no matter who is coaching) once the roster is full once again. It will then be up to the coaching staff to take this team to beyond average.

I will say this. I like the talent on offense this year more than last year's squad. We should have an SEC caliber O-line and receiving corps by 2012 (maybe as early as next year).

Ron Zook, and anyone else who loses to Miss St at home gets fired. I think that did Fulmer in too didn't it? And believe me, the GSMB needs a few voices of reason too. Every board has their fanatics and extremists. The crazies are what make them fun to visit.

For those of you calling those of us who love UT yet understand we're in deep trouble negative, let me ask you this question. Was the crew member on the Titanic who warned of an on coming ice burg a "nega-titanic" crew mwmber or realistic?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

interesting analogy but id need to know more before i can answer....

did the crew member cry iceberg for 6 months? did he shout ICEBERG everytime anyone spoke about anything?

and lastly, did crying iceberg change anything or is he still dead?
