negative vs. realistic

So stating that UT is in trouble is putting the team down? Hmmm that's just funny to me. You can search from the mountains to the delta and you won't find a bigger fan than me. I love UT and always will. But as a FAN I have the right to state my opinion and terrible management by our AD.

Well, I searched and found some fans who even for an all Vols fan like me are downright nuts and certainly bigger fans that either you or me. Painting your house orange and having a Power T front door (neighborhood and zoning law forced them to change it all), having an orange shrine room complete with entrance and exit custom Vols rituals and requirement for head to foot Vols regalia, painting your truck orange including the undercarriage, eating only orange colored desserts (sherbet, jello etc), refusing to be served at a restaurant unless the waiter/waitress has some form of orange clothing and it goes on. Some of our fans exceed sanity but they're still fans and don't put their team down. Would it kill you (some may hope it would but I don't) to post something positive about the team you purport to be a fan of?

I think that with the Dooley hire you may have gained a few fans. I'll be cheering for TN and your coach to suceed this year. Look at what the ol' ball coach did his first couple of years at Florida with questionable tallent and depth. I'm not saying Dooley is the next Spurrier, but I like what he brings to the table and hope he gets 3 years to build a program here.
Look! Yet another fan of one of our chief rivals likes our coach... Yep, that makes me "feel" better.

Really? This isn't life and death? Whew thanks for clearing that up. Damn I feel better now.

Why would you start a thread for this? You were doing just fine in the crackhead thread.

If he goes sub-.500 both years I doubt he gets a 3rd year.

The ONLY way that happens ...is if Hamilton is gone! New AD may bring in his own coach!

A program (like most of you think) with the history of UT does not need to go through 4 coaches in a 5/6 year span! That would be devistating to the program! What UT has been through is bad enough...but that would cripple it! CDD should get atleast 4/5 yrs to make this work.........JMO!

Pointing out issues with the team on a UT board is not putting the team down. It's what sports fans do.

Here are some facts:
1. We are thin and young in talent.
2. We have a new coach with a losing record in the WAC.
3. We have a tough schedule.
4. We play in the toughest conf in the nation.
5. We can't sell out season tickets.
6. Fan enthusiasm is arguably at an alltime low.

There's a few issues that tell me some of what I need to know.

Some? Yeah. That tells you "some" of what you need to know to say "I think it is likely...."

That isn't nearly enough to draw a final conclusion on.

As for #2, his record is what it is... so is the rest of his resume. Most if not all of the people who griped about that record would be fully on board if he had come to UT from being NS's asst HC and OC at Bama. But would he have been more qualified or even AS qualified? No. But some people driven by their emotions might "feel" better about it.

I am going to enjoy the season whether Hamilton is fired or not. Firing him will not put a single W on the board. We might screw up and hire someone even worse. We might end up with another stealth community organizer. Or, we could get a PC butchy bra burning AD (hey that might not be so bad).

This is downright embarrassing! A Gator who acts more like a Vols supporter than many Vols supporter on this forum.

Seriously MaryvilleGator, thank you for lending a bit of class here. I've rooted for the Lizard men in every bowl they've played. But that's true of any SEC team playing a non-SEC team.

Ok.

You want realism. It's not going to be fun for a while.

But, everyone already knew that. No one would be able to fix this problem overnight.

dooley had the testicular fortitude to take the job knowing he might get fired in three years because he was left jack squat.

The most important days for tennessee football in the next few years will be in 2/11, 2/12, and 2/13.

So, sit back. Hope the man who had the guts to accept the challenge succeeds and remember these days when the day arrives that tennessee is back to where you all want them to be

I'll give you an example. I just started a thread about a hypothetical 10-2 season where I stated it is not probable from the beginning. I asked people choose a team to compare to ours if we were to go 10-2. Only two people did it. 90% of the posts said things like "when hell freezes over" and "it's impossible." I'm not disagreeing with them, but that wasn't what the thread was even about. Some people are so quick to dwell on the negative that they won't even allow themselves to make any other kind of comment. You can think we will lose ten games next year and still answer the question I asked.

Yea, you're right, it's more. SEC football.

well, you know, you could try death and see which is the most important, but i wouldn't recommend it. there is nothing wrong with being positive, unrealistic isn't a wise choice, but it is practiced by many in both the positive and the negative
....what harm is done when people say 12 - 0 season
......its not going to happen so its basically a fun thing for a fan to say
....i agree hamilton is on the hot seat....and deservedly so

Threads like these make me wish we could revert back to a time when internet didn't exist. Sigh.

This thread is pretty awful.

My quote is be taken with a hint of sarcasm. Many in the south east do take football very very seriously.

Anyone can write anything they want. But if you write the Vols are going to go 10-0 or 12-0 be prepared to receive some strong opposition to that line of thinking. Not sure if I'd agree it's a fun thing to say, out loud at least.

If he fails, he may not get another opportunity like this again.

A lot of people would choose to wait and avoid being set up for failure
