Exactly what I was thinking. Get Gentry as our Blue Chip QB then maybe Williams as the project QB.
Gentry was looking elsewhere a few days ago. Or report out of New Mexico had him looking elsewhere.
If Fergy secures the starting q.b. position here, then I doudt Gentry will entertain sitting behind him for a two season, if Fergy goes the the NFL early, or for three seasons, if Fergy completes his eligibility.
I think the clear priority for the 2015 class is at OL. Not just because Jackson, Blair, Crowder, and Kerbyson with be Seniors in 2015, but because everyone else on the 2-deep are unknowns. We need about 6 OL in this class
OL seems like a big need after the Brown miss and us losing so many guys this year. However, on this year's starting OL we likely won't lose anyone - so not sure 4 OL is quite as critical as some think - we also have a couple of 2014 commits that could flip over to OL giving us room to gamble on a best avl guy
Kerby might not even start in 2014 - not sure he will be huge loss in 2015 - Cthomas may well beat him out
2015 is a long way away but we likely return all our OL in 2015 from projected 2014 starters so while we do lose several OL starters in 2015 most likely (given this is a long way away)
we would still have a lot of quality guys coming into 2016 - not like we'd be starting all FR
Wiesman, Asanders, Cthomas, Raulerson would be here
then whoever we add this year - let's say Jjones and Redmond come on board - you add those to the list above and that is a really good 6 to get a starting 5 from
so while you want to get some good OL unless they are really special they won't be playing for a while - not essential to get 4 or over that imo
now if they are special, sure, get em - but don't sacrifice a special guy for just adding another body that likely will never play
True that we won't likely lose anyone on the OL after 2014, but after 2015 we will lose Blair, Jackson, Crowder, and Kerbyson. If the coaches don't prepare for that in this class, they will have all their eggs in the Sanders, Raulerson, Robertson, Kendrick and Thomas baskets for 2016. And that's just considering starters. What about depth? In order to have 12 experienced scholarship OL in 2016, we need 4 OL in this class. I'd take 6 OL since I'm not expecting much out of Kendrick and we don't know what to expect out of Sanders, Raulerson, Robertson, etc.
I also think an elite JUCO DT is an important need. O Williams was not a top 100 JUCO player according to 247 Sports. We need him to be good, and I think many people assume he will be because he's coming from JUCO, but I think that's a bad assumption.
you would still have Cthomas and Wiesman as well
i get what you are saying - at this point though i still think we are in a spot where we have to be more worried about getting that gamechanging type talent on campus more than filling #s at positions - once you get some game changers that is not overly difficult to do with a competent recruiter and CBJ has shown to be that
so let's say a Hendrix caliber DL is avl - would i take that over the 4th or 5th OL (again not a richmond or jjones level - think Kerby level) - yes i would every day of the week
and if a big fish shows big interest late but i wont know till signing day - Ajackson type talent but with real interest - do i hold a spot for that - yes, without a doubt
You've convinced me that we don't need 6, but I still think we need 4. Right now I'm thinking that our starting2016 OL looks like this
LT - Thomas
LG - Robertson
C - ?
RG - Wiesman
RT - Sanders/Jones/Stewart
Not sure where Raulerson fits in but I think he'll be a good player. I think that looks REALLY good, but I'm a little concerned about depth.
