Needing prayers.

I’d be grateful for prayers for the new grandbaby Luke.

Although the birth went well, and he’s a classic sweet calm second baby, nursing well, he has a congenital partial urinary obstruction. The fetal ultrasounds showed one kidney looking a little odd, but no one expected anything this severe. He could lose both kidneys if this is not corrected.

He is able to pee, but not completely, so he is stuck in the hospital, now on the pediatrics ward. He will be transferred, maybe Friday, to Charlotte for specialty neonatal urologic surgery (endoscopic, not open. @Tin Man, you’re in good company. He had his cystogram about the same time as you.) We don’t know how long he’ll be hospitalized after that.

This is obviously hard on all of us, especially the four-year-old, who hasn’t seen his mom since Friday night, his little brother at all except over phone, and his dad until this morning. No visitors, of course. He’s hanging in there, but he’s confused and upset.

Thoughts and prayers appreciated for little Luke, the dedicated healthcare professionals, and the rest of us, as we go through this journey.

Prayers sent.

Thanks to all. 💕 Please keep praying if you will.

He’s being transported by ambulance today to Levine Children’s in Charlotte. We’re still untangling how and when to get his big brother down there.

The logistics of moving a 6lb 13oz newborn a hundred or so miles are astonishing.
Still praying! Keep us updated best you can.

Also, my first son was 6 lbs 13 oz. :)

Any luck on getting everyone settled where they should be?

Praying for your family, Exie!!!!!

I’m waiting for updates. They have to meet with the surgeon to schedule etc. And I think the hospital helps with housing, hotels, etc.

Edit to add: my daughter was allowed to ride down in the ambulance. The pic was so pitiful; this tiny little creature in this huge piece of tech. 😢

At my grandson's 1st birthday party, my daughter-in-law went to change his diaper and found blood. They took him to the ER, ran tests for a couple days, and sent him home. A while later, it happened again. Back to the hospital, which he screamed when we got to his room and he saw that metal cell they called a baby bed. They ran more tests, and a surgeon was sure it was Meckel's diverticulum, even though they couldn't see it on the scope. He ended up having surgery. He's 7 now, and it was traumatic for all of us ..... but he doesn't remember any of it. God is good. More prayers for Luke and his mommy and his grandma (grandmother? mimi? nana? nanny? what do they call you?)

I’m so sorry.

Thanks again, everyone. My church prayer group is now also on board.

Update: Luke is now in the Levine Children’s Hospital NICU, and daughter, son in law, and big brother are finally together in a nearby hotel. Surgery should be Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, depending on how the Foley cath changes go. (They are slowly enlarging the urethra with increasingly bigger Foley catheters so that the surgical instruments will fit. Apologies to the gennulmens here.) Then maybe discharged home two days later.

They meet the nephrologist tomorrow about the state of his kidneys, but someone (nephrologist by phone??) told them that 1 of 3 babies with this condition have chronic renal (kidney) disease, but 2 of 3 don’t, and “his instinct” is that Luke’s will be ok. We like those odds! And so we will see.

Hubs and I will find out if we need to go down to Charlotte to mind the four year old on day of surgery, but their friends are desperate to help.

I had to remind myself that he won’t be a week old until this coming Saturday evening.

We'll definitely be praying for the little guy, and that everything will be okay after surgery. Praying for all of you.
