ROFL!!!!
Some of you people are no doubt hilarious. If you don't like Butch, no problem! Your entitled to your own opinion. But remind me again how many coaches turned down this job before Butch? If he left today, you can't tell me this is not a more attractive job than it was before he came. That is no doubt a sign of elevating the program somewhat. I understand some of the frustrations (not being more aggressive before halftime and the challenge for example) but we've been completely solid in recruiting and only have to beat a pathetic Candy team to go bowling...we return nearly everyone as well. How can you not look at this o line and realize there's not much that can be done.
I'm over the offensive line excuse. Those boys are simply not big enough, nor strong enough, nor coached well enough. Those kids should be eating every meal at Shoneys and raiding that buffet like it ain't no thang, then spend every moment not in class turning that fat to mass in the weight room. Why aren't each of those linemen at least twenty pounds heavier by now? This offense,as we have learnt over the last two weeks, can't run in the Sec. It's never gonna work unless your opponent is sub par defensively. I want to see major coaching changes on the offense. This current staff will never get us to 9-10 win seasons.
Here's the problem with much of volnation, you could grab a random homeless person off the street and give em a shower,a nice haircut, and orange slacks, then call them your new coach and the vast majority of fans would treat them like the second coming of Christ. Those of us that like to be realist are then told we are not true fans. To me, a true fan is not one that follows blindly regardless of situation. I'm not sure if Butch is the one that needs to go but there definitely needs to be some staff changes this off-season. I would not be sad if he went to Michigan....
A new AD with a fan base that makes this one look sane? He'd either be clinically insane, or stupid to take a chance on Butch. Hell, the guy is still pretty unproven now with Tennessee, but at least Tennessee has him cheap (he's one of the worst paid coaches in the SEC right now). While he is doing a good job getting the cupboard stocked, the jury is still out on how effectively he actually manages that stock he is getting.
I like the guy, I do. But this is as true of a time as ever to throw out the real card, and say let's get real here. He, at this point, has not proven he is worth the 4+ million he'd probably command to make the move. And personally, I'd say Tennessee should call his bluff if he tries to jockey for a raise.
You sir don't understand what type of situation the ut football program was in when he got here. General Neyland himself would have struggled with what Dooley and company left. Butch has done wonders and if you can't see that then you are blind. This is all absurd. You don't even consider such things as extensions, raises, or safeguarding a coach with a 2 year sub .500 record to date. This is appalling that we have sunk to these indignities. Have you no pride at all?
If a coach was to assure you coming in that this was his dream job, the end destination of his aspirations: and then he abruptly leaves you for a new offer 2 seasons in, what do you do? I will tell you what you don't do. You don't try to entice his kind to stay. If such a thing occurs, you say good riddance and count your blessings that you did not commit yourself to a longer term relationship.
Chris Lowe said tonight on 104.5 in Nashville that Michigan will likely contact Butch. Said that UT had better be ready to bump his salary considerably if that happens.

Agree. I do think in the future he'll be a good coach, but right now he's got a lot of learning to do. A lot of mistakes last night for the staff. And not starting dobbs day one this season made a lot of people scratch their heads. You can make up any excuse you want vn. But starting worley- a pocket passer, over dobbs- a dual threat qb in a no huddle, fast pace, read option offense was head scratching. Redshirting isn't a big deal at a place like ut, where you have to win now.Still not sweating it. Butch hasn't proven to anyone that he is worthy of going anywhere. Great recruiting class EH maybe but look at how many legacy players.
Sub .500 record.
I am not seeing it. I don't think there is a D1 team in the country that would offer Butch Jones even remotely close to what TN is paying him currently, and his stats don't make him worth the buyout. Now had Butch beaten Florida and Georgia and we were sitting right now 7-4 then we may need to sweat it.
Butch has Michigan proofed himself.
