I don't think the Michigan job is as attractive as a lot of people think

I think it could be. It's a lot like Tennessee in many respects. Storied tradition, fallen on hard times, trying to find relevancy. I have no idea what the particular challenges are at Michigan, but I'm pretty sure they have the facilities and fan base to bring it back around. And, to be sure, the Big 10 is easier ground to plow than the SEC.

Cutcliffe has turned it down already on more than 1 occasion. The last time he was about to be named HC then Hambone pulled the offer because of disagreements and we ended up with DooDooley. Last time we searched Cut wouldn't even consider leaving Duke. Were Butch to leave, Cut would not come back.

He may not but I would at least give him a ring. I would find someone that has some kind of relationship to Peyton if he does have interest in coaching. If not, we have lots of options.

True, but it's got to be a tougher sell to many recruits. I'd think it'd be harder to get southern players to come up to the great white north. No way I'd go there when I could play in the south or on the west coast and wear shorts year round

Michigan has major problems that extend beyond Brady Hoke. I think they are going to have a hard time finding a coach because of the constant battle between alums, fans, boosters and the athletic department. They will end up making a second rate hire and over paying dramatically.

I agree and think that job has lost a lot of luster

How would you know any of this? This is conjecture masquerading as inside info. It makes no sense that Hamilton would have offered Cutcliffe the job in 2010 just one year after firing Fulmer. Cutcliffe had done nothing special with the Duke program yet and I don't believe anything more than an invitation for a courtesy interview was ever extended. Hamilton had a Saban fixation back then and was determined to hire one of his proteges. Muschamp turned us down (Jimbo Fisher may have as well) and he moved on to Dooley. Yes, that was a brain fart and just about anybody including Cutcliffe would have been better but I still don't think he had an offer.

Butch's coach speak has absolutely no impact on my opinion @ this. He will not go to UM IMO b/c ...

#1 An 8-12 SEC coach would cause mattresses to burn by their fan base. The average UM will look at on field results and say "he11 NO"! Few up there see what He's building below the surface.

#2 Butch would not take this job and uproot for a lateral move. UM would have to throw ridiculous amounts of $$$ at him and the staff to get them to make this change. Therefore, refer to an increased likelihood of #1.

As an impartial observer of Tenn football for 35 years, I don't know what's more amusing: UT fans thinking that Michigan would be interested in hiring Butch Jones, a coach well on his way to another 5-7 season (at best), or Vol fans thinking that he wouldn't jump at the chance to leave UT for Michigan, in the unlikely event that he's offered the job.

You're so positive he'd leave? Why?

Lol. Maybe they will offer stoops and take him away from okie.

You may continue to be amused if you like but all we have to go on is what Butch Jones has said because unlike yourself we are not mind readers. He has just been quoted as saying that he and his family likes Tennessee and plans on staying here a long time...I see no reason to doubt this as Michigan, at least at the moment, would be a lateral move.

As far as our record is concerned, 5-7 is possible but so is 6-6, and since we are fans unlike yourself, that's what we are hoping for.

Most people would say 7-5 is better, but they ain't got crazy insight like you playa!

Can we be done with this conjecture? CBJ is moving forward here but if Michigan wants a mid level coach who has only beat one ranked opponent in his career, let that donor/fan base deal with it.

All this rumor mongering just feeds CBJ's ego; as said on another thread, he is just positioning for more money, wish he would coach/develop the skill of position players.

Hope his focus is on how to eke out enough wins for a bowl he promised instead of sleeping on pipe dreams of how he's the most wanted coach in the land.

On XM The First Team, a caller called in this morning and asked if he had heard Butch to Michigan rumors. He said he HAS from two different people. Didn't think it would happen.

As far as Cut, most didn't want him bc he was thought of as Fulmer 2.0, Duke loves Fulmer 2.0. Cut proved he could win at Ole Miss (Without the cheating). He wins and it's not a coincidence Tn's best years was with him on the sidelines.

Someone mentioned USC hiring Kiffin without a winning resume, Kiffin was way down their list. They got turned down a bunch bc everyone knew sanctions were coming. Plan B coaches get hired quite often.

If Butch leaves he leaves; there is no reason to worry about it. If they offer it will be up to him to choose. If he leaves we will move on a try to find someone better to coach our Vols. I know this, I will never say never when it comes to a coach. I remember people saying some of the same things when the USC job came open, "USC will not go after Kiffin, he has not proven anything yet" I do believe karma has to give us a break eventually though:thumbsup:.

Hilarious. Tell it again.

Yeah, board is slow today. Thought this would rub everyone wrong just enough. Lack of anything truly funny and hits at least one sore spot on everyone.
I don't mind being the target if it sparks a few good barbs. Like yours, it made me laugh.

So CBJ gets a pass on the UF game because the team is historically bad, and the vols have lost other games they should have won over the years?

Im all on the Butch train. Don't get me wrong. But that was a horrible ugly game a second year coach should have won, especially given what we know about UF now. Im just saying he has a lot to prove on the field and in-game coaching. He is, after all, 0-2 against the worst UF coach this side of Zook. It can't be all recruiting and marketing (which he is very good at). I'm confident the wins will come, but the UF game is simply indefensible and should make everybody scratch their head a bit. JMO.

Please don't contradict yourself in the same post. You can't calim to be all in on a coach and then give multiple reasons why he isn't acceptable. As for his record against Florida, get over it! He is only responsible for the last two. He didn't create the entire streak. We should have won the game for multiple reasons. Please do not, however, forget he was playing a team coached by a horrible head coach with a team that has even worse depth and youth issues. CBJ and the team have a ways to go, he hasn't hesitated to say as much during press conferences. Just let the rest of the season play out and let the Florida game go.

I find it even more amusing that you are so sure of any of that hot garbage you just slung out on a message board.
