Hey guys. I'm sure this question has been asked plenty before and I did use the search feature but can't really find anything. I planned on taking my nephew to his first away game this season and he's pretty excited with the thoughts of hitting the road to watch the Vols play. I've heard some horror stories from you guys over the past couple of years about some of the other SEC places and wanted to see which would probably be more enjoyable and a decent place to take 'em based on your experiances.

It's either Georgia or South Carolina. MSU is too far and I wanted to go somewhere else other than Nashville. The Georgia Dome isn't an SEC game but for sure not out of the question. I've never been to Sanford Stadium and I've heard scJR is a decent place.

Thx for any tips guys!

Every stadium has its problems but south carolina is defiantly the lesser of the two evils. Athens is filled with *******s and trash

Shaun, the Georgia Dome isn't a bad place to see a game, but like you said, it is not an SEC game. If I was going to one game or the other, I would probably go to SC over GA. The only reason being is I can't stand GA fans. My opine is that they are the in the top 3 "worst fans" in the SEC. FL and LSU would be the other two. I know nothing about SC but would like to see their stadium. Went to GA one time in college and couldn't even get a ticket outside. There were just none available.

I've been to both UGA and USC, I had a better time in Columbia just because the Fans wasn't as bad to deal with. Anywhere you go, theres always a good chance of experiencing rude fans. But depending on the age of your nephew, I would recommend SCjr.

USC is an easy place to watch a game. The fans aren't bad here at all. I haven't had any issues at any of the games I've went to (football, baseball, basketball)

I went to fla last year and it really wasn't all that bad. This year im hitting the Georgia dome and Athens. I could care less about ga fans, I want to see if their stadium is as pretty as it looks on tv. I was a little disappointed with fla. The outside was nice and the campus was nice but inside kinda sucked.

Chatta you are right. From the outside FL looks good but it is a concrete block POS on the inside. You must have had a "good" exp with their fans. I took my wife once and my family once and besides the fans being jerks, the weather was extreme....started out 150 degrees in the first half and then flooded in the second both times.

I was at the '06 game in Columbia, and it wasn't bad at all. There were two very drunk fans in front of me complaining about having to sit near a Tennessee fan, and everybody around them was apologizing for them

I've been to Sanford twice and haven't had hardly any trouble. Some fans might bark at you, but that just makes them look like idiots. We got a good chuckle from them doing that. We were at the 51-33 game a few years ago, and it might be my favorite game that I have ever attended away from Neyland.

I've said it on here before, but the rudest fans I've come in contact with have been Vandy fans. Moreso in basketball than football, but let's face it, they play an away game at The Dud whenever the Vols are playing there.

South Carolina is an incredibly easy place to go to a game. Easy to get in and out of, tons of parking around the stadium and a pretty underrated stadium to watch a game in. There's not much atmosphere outside since you're basically in the middle of some fairgrounds and a couple of miles from campus. Sort of feels like going to a pro game.

UGA has tons of atmosphere, a great stadium and great tailgating, but you really need to have a gameplan and some idea where you are going on game day. Parking absolutely sucks.

As far as rival fans, if you'll just be cool, laugh it off and be intent on having a good time, you won't have a problem 99% of the time.

I agree with Vandy being rude. and I lived in Georgia for about six months. I couldn't stand their fans. Extremely rude. I lived on St Simons Island and during the Florida / Georgia game...it was a nightmare due to how close it is to Jax and dealing with both of those idiot fan bases. My nephew just turned 12 so he's not that young but young enough to get really uncomfortable if someone wants to be a prick. I'll probably pick Williams-Brice Stadium and explain that he'll have the occasional smart comment from their fans but not to pay them any attention that we aren't in WVU. Nobody should attack :D

I've been to USC and UGA multiple times and never had any semblance of a problem at either. Both are fun trips, though UGA is probably better if you can only make one.

It really must be random because unlike most on here, i had a great experience in Athens (uga fans were super friendly), while Columbia and sc fans were horrible (sc fans were rude pieces of sh!t).

In response to another poster, i was disappointed with sanford stadium. It was not near as cool as i'd heard.

Sanford, Jordan-Hare and Williams-Brice are all pretty much carbon copies. Sanford is just built in a ravine.

I went to the game in Athens in 2006. The campus and stadium are both pretty nice, but the fans are definitely aggressive. If your nephew is real young I wouldnt suggest it. I have never to a game at USC but most people on here seem to like it alright.

Shaun, go to Atlanta for the NC State game, it will be a better experience and we need as many Vols in the house as possible. If you pick USCe or UGA, then pick USCe because we should have a better chance to win that game.

Never been to Athens. When I took my fiancee to SC a few years ago we got spit on. It was the most helpless and demasculating experience ever. We were surrounded by 100s of SC fans and were the only two in orange anywhere close so I couldn't do a thing. Just stay with the group from TN and you will be fine.

Shaun, more pluses for the GA dome....weather is constant and it is way easy to get to. You can park way away from the Stadium and ride the train in. Drops you off right at the stadium. That is what we are going to do!!

USC's stadium isn't terrible. However, the surrounding area is an absolute ****hole.

Give your nephew a real taste of the real SEC, which heavily relies on atmosphere, and go to Athens. All teams have stupid fans, but they can be easily avoided.

UGA is a parking nightmare. SC is pretty quick and easy as far as in and out before/after the game. UGA has a beautiful stadium and campus, whereas W-B is in the middle of a sand lot. There is nothing around the stadium but buildings and the fairgrounds.

my trips were a long time ago but I would choose UGA over SC all day. Didn't have any issues either place but like others said the atmosphere is much better

If your nephew is younger, and his ears are more fragile, Columbia is the perfect place. Not to mention, it will be easier to manage a younger kid there because there's no hills walking to or from the stadium, in the stadium a little, but nothing tiring until the upper deck stairs.

If he's older, and can really appreciate the ambiance of a southern stadium and rivalry and pageantry of the SEC, between the Hedges is where you should take him.

SC was kind of meh gameday wise. When the band was walking around before the game, no one was really paying attention. There's no "Cock Walk" or anything like that, it's just not an SEC caliber atmosphere yet, but it's getting there... However, the train system they have set up next to it is kind of a cool "meander-to" type of attraction, and you can go down practically to the field before the game with relative ease and check out the place... I had a good time in columbia, but it wasn't even close to the atmosphere of Knoxville.

Like TNGlen said it's tough to buy tickets outside of the stadium at uga, so if you chose to go there have them prior. Made that mistake my first time down there. Never been to USC so don't know how tough it is to scalp tix there.

Exactly. That is how it is at LSU. They will yell "Tiger Bait!" right in your face, but it is sort of a bluff/test, and all you have to do is relax, be cool and make a joke back if you have one handy. I wear my orange proudly here and they do no more than just tease me a wee bit.
