Are there any out there that are reliable, simple to use, relatively affordable AND the toner doesn't cost you a first-born child?

I have a Dell 1320c. I bought it a couple of years ago. It works. Nothing fancy. I don't order the toner so I couldn't tell you how it compares to others.

Anything other than Lexmark or HP. Both have overwhelmingly been nightmares for me both in my home and at the office.

I have the HP Envy 114. Its simple enough to set up and the scanner and wireless functionality are nice. I haven't had any issues with it in the year that I've had it. My wife just bought the black/color ink cartridge combo for $32 from Amazon.

Ink is typically not cheap period.

My friend bought an HP 3512 from Walmart that I set up for her to work as her network printer for her desktop and laptop computer. She hasn't had any trouble with it.

My dad is runs a Canon MX920 (think you have to get the 922 now) and it does nice color but it's more expensive at around $130. It's a copier, scanner, fax combo thought so you might not need all that.

I have an Epson XP-400, it's was a good price and prints off great color 3x5 and 4x6 pictures. It's also wireless, I use it with my ipad a lot.

before you buy weigh the cost of the unit and the cost of toner/ink together. Some have low unit cost but the ink will kill you. Vice versa also. Keep in mind they are machines and will break down at some point. Service on a cash n carry unit can be very pricey no matter how small the problem is. Service and ink is where the manufacturers make their money

Probably need the expertise offered by Ksusha on this one, but I've been quite pleased with Epson products for the past 15 years or so and the price of the products. Good ink is expensive, as noted already.

Canon or Epson

Both are lightyears ahead of others in print quality. Ink is expensive. Get it refilled at Walgreens or Costco and you're set.

I never have luck with walgreens refills on ink. I get leaks, it runs, and it seems to disappear almost immediately.

I've had a MFC-J430W all-in-one for about a year. Have used all features except the fax and have had no issues. It supports "air print" devices as well. I tried one of the ink vendors on Amazon for refills (just check ratings) and also had great luck.

It's a steal at $66.99 ($80 with shipping)

How much are you using a printer?

How often do you use color?

If the answer is rarely, I'd go with something cheap. There's not really any printer that's terrible when its not used a lot.

I have used brother all in ones for the last 8-10 years. I on on my 2nd one now with no issues. I would recommend them. I do buy my ink from a small ink shop that refillls, saves several dollars. I no longer use the fax on the all in one. I have been using myfax.com for the last few years.

Guys -I can't tell you how much I appreciate the input. I don't want to have to take out the shotgun and start blowing printers and sh$# away when they don't work or I can't figure out a bs problem or, like the last printer, a small internal plastic part cracked causing a terminal error that cannot be fixed.

Ok - I bought a Cannon MX452. Here's why. 1) It has 1 color cartridge and 1 b/w cartridge to replace - no 4 color cartridges to mess with; 2) The cartridges were about 20-30 bucks apiece - I can live with that; 3) the printer was about $79.00 - all-in-one - scanner, copier, printer, wireless; 4) recommendations herein. So far so good -easy installation, good results. I will advise how it goes as time passes. Thanks fer the help. Prof.
