I know the obvious answer to this question is LSU. But what was the reason we scored so much less than normal against them the other night. Was it our shooting, their def or both? I have admitted that I do not know enough about BB to discuss it so I turn to those of you in the nation who do to help educate me.

The team really doesn't shoot that well. According to ESPN.com, our Field Goal % on the season is 44.3, which is 11th in the SEC.

I don't think LSU played great defense against us the other night, but we did take some questionable shots (like Chism taking 5 3-pointers, JaJuan launching Chris Lofton-type shots) and we didn't hit the shots.

But why did we score so much less? We had an overtime and still scored less than normal. If we only shoot 44% then we must shoot a ton.

If memory serves, ten minutes into the game, the total score was less than 25. UT is at its best when it runs. You did not do that early on, for whatever reason. LSU was allowed by your team to totally control the pace of that game. Its not just FG %, its also attempts. And it was just a very slow game, especially in the first half.

We just had a really bad shooting night. I believe we shot around 38%. Like I said, most of it was because of some really questionable shot attempts.

We do shoot a lot because turn over teams so much.

UT took 70 attempts. That's more than enough attempts.

From my vantage point watching the game in the Dome, one of the reasons we didn't get good shot attempts is because we really couldn't get the ball inside consistently, and we didn't create enough motion/screens for higher percentage jump shots. Most all of our baskets were either in the paint or from behind the arc, not in between.

Brady's gameplan was this:

1.) Stack the LSU bigs down low. If any guard (Ramar, Lofton) tries to drive to the basket, converge with hands up to block and/or alter shots. That was highly effective.
2.) Whenever Lofton touches the ball, send two athletic guards on a double team. Less effective, as Lofton got 21 points, but it forced Jujuan to take more shots.

As much as I hate to say it, it worked. The points that we did get in the first half were primarily from some miraculous Lofton outside shots, some Childress threes, and Crews/Chism shots in the paint. Jujuan and Dane were largely absent as a scoring threat.
If anything, our passing was good, but our guys were not moving as much as needed to create open shots. We seemed extremely sluggish, especially compared to the Florida/Georgia games, which could be due to the lateness of the game or just having the week off.

LSU's defense is long, lanky, and athletic. that was what they expected out of their D in the preseason and they finally showed up

We ran well enough in the first half, the problem was that LSU was a little more aggressive than they were at Knoxville and blocked a number of shots, layups included back at us. Threes were not falling, the old saying "live by the sword, die by the sword" seems to fit.

We just don't match up well with LSU, top to bottom. I still think we are a good team though, but we can't expect a 6'7 freshman to handle Davis all night. Chism did not play well tonight that is why we lost.

Exactly. I think our personnel matches up worse with LSU than any other team in the conference.

We lost and had a low scoring effort because we went 8+ minutes in the first half without scoring. It was more self inflicted then anything else.

I kept waiting for Fat Baby :)) ) to tire out, but if he did it wasn't enough.Maybe we should have ran alot more.
