We just had a really bad shooting night. I believe we shot around 38%. Like I said, most of it was because of some really questionable shot attempts.
We do shoot a lot because turn over teams so much.
From my vantage point watching the game in the Dome, one of the reasons we didn't get good shot attempts is because we really couldn't get the ball inside consistently, and we didn't create enough motion/screens for higher percentage jump shots. Most all of our baskets were either in the paint or from behind the arc, not in between.
Brady's gameplan was this:
1.) Stack the LSU bigs down low. If any guard (Ramar, Lofton) tries to drive to the basket, converge with hands up to block and/or alter shots. That was highly effective.
2.) Whenever Lofton touches the ball, send two athletic guards on a double team. Less effective, as Lofton got 21 points, but it forced Jujuan to take more shots.
As much as I hate to say it, it worked. The points that we did get in the first half were primarily from some miraculous Lofton outside shots, some Childress threes, and Crews/Chism shots in the paint. Jujuan and Dane were largely absent as a scoring threat.
If anything, our passing was good, but our guys were not moving as much as needed to create open shots. We seemed extremely sluggish, especially compared to the Florida/Georgia games, which could be due to the lateness of the game or just having the week off.
