I work at a high school part time and talk to coaches and teachers all the time, their biggest complaints about students are:
1. Work ethics
2. Entitlement
3. Parent expectations
I remember in high school when coaches used curse words and grabbed you by the shoulder pads and said, "Are you listening to me?" I thought nothing about it and would work to do my best. I never complained to my parents, and if I did, they would tell me to quit complaining and follow the coach's directions. Today, many not all, want to be their child's best buddy and no matter what the child's complaint is, warrented or not, some parents attack the school. If little Johnny, or little Mary, does not think she is getting enough playing time in basketball, parents have been know to demand that their child be given equal playing time. Principals have to deal with parents complaints concerning tough workouts and sports drills. I had that happen to me during my latter coaching career. I believe that the same behavior has made it into the college ranks.
That is not to say that some coaches do not cause their own issues, because I believe you can get the job done without going all military. I do believe that coaching abuse exist, however, there are still a lot of students that have work ethic and entitlement issues.
