Neal picking and choosing?

you sign with a school as a RB, and following a frosh year where you were 2nd string and feel like you've been working hard in spring and summer. then, u get injured in camp and are immediately moved to WR upon your return.

What's going on in your head? Confusion, a the least , right?

Agreed he's had a hell of a lot tossed at him. It does raise the TP vs BB type scenarios but he's not shown out on the sidelines and outside of this one quote I haven't heard him be anything but a team player. I just figured a guy in his situation would be fighting for any place to shine. Because once you shine your voice and weight carries over other places, usually anyway.

Is he fraid to get hit?

Come on man when you got sub 4.3 speed and great footwork your first goal is to make people miss. Look back at his film he ran out of the power I all his career. Trust me at the Creek u had to be physical to run the ball. All this kid need is a chance.

As I am understanding a quote from CTJ on TOS Neal is not willing to be a return man and has either not participated or not given 100%. Reading between the lines it would seem to indicate a cause for why he's not been featured much besides his being banged up. Not saying he'd have made a difference but he's seemingly not taking full advantage of his other opportunities to see the field.

Edit: it was Eric Russell so forgive me saying CTJ but below are his quoted words for those assuming I am making stuff up.

"If Rajion wants to be he could be," special teams coordinator Eric Russell said. "Right now I don't know what Rajion wants to do. I think he's got the tools. I think he's got the ability (but) special teams haven't been very high on his priority list."

"There's no question," Russell said. "We've asked him. We've tried. Right now he can't do it."

I'd cut him right now, wtf, we have asked him? Coaches shouldn't ask, they should tell or they should sit them. That's a joke on his part. He will never be a player if his attitude isn't "i'll do anything I'm asked to do." That's a joke.

This is the U of tennessee not the U of Rajion, if he don't want to play special teams at UT maybe he can go play at a j.c. somewhere. What happened to team first?Hell it gives him playing time! He needs to quit wasting his talent, plenty of other guys that would love to have the opportunity. GO VOLS!!!

Our running sucks. Why is ANYONE on the bench? Especially Neal. Same thing happend at Qb last year when Bray looked good and Simms didn't. Memories are short round here just my opinion.

Do u really think they asked and he said no come on.He returned kicks last year and he knows you have to get on the field anyway you can.He is willing to play reciever if that's not taking one for the team what is.

1st of all he hasn't stared over a body of water so it's kind of hard to say he really wants it. Also if he was scrapping for his spots on the field why would Russell be quoted that way.

The RB position on our team is anything but set in stone. There's probably no better opportunity to start (from a backups perspective) than at RB. No one has shown they've got what it takes. It's ripe for the pickings, Neal. If you think what you got what it takes, step up and show them when you're given the opportunity in practice. I can guarantee the coaches aren't going to say "we're pleased what we've seen from our backs thus far".

Yeah, like everything else about this team we need to be patient. Neal's a young man trying to find his spot on the roster. A good verbal bashing is not needed at this point and time. AH's imo!

Not sure why Russell said it the way he did, but every coach doesn't always calculate what or how they're saying what they're saying. I have two in-laws that are high school coaches, one of whose uncle was a D1 DC. Sometimes things are said not thinking of all the different ways it can be dissected. The statement about his "priority list" may only mean his first priority is getting healthy.

Thanks the last thing we should question about this kid is his character. He is a humble kid that needs to get is shot. When he gets his chance all the questions and rumors will go away.

I guess that's my question, which shot, at what position and isn't he getting that in practice already? If he is getting his shot at return man, why wouldn't he take it?

Im talking bout game time situations.2 to 3 touches want cut it.Lane has already gotten half the touches in 3 games Neal has had in all of last year. You can't tell me he was competing in the spring for the #1 spot to now not even being on the depth chart.Come on man as they say on Sundays on ESPN!!!!!!!!

You obviously feel the guy can earn his spot if given a fair shake so why do you suppose if he has the ability the coaches aren't letting him? If he was showing out in practice don't you think they would. If they are holding him back for whatever reason wouldn't you think he'd take any position to get the ball like ST's so he could show out. I'm not saying I have answers but I have doubts this staff would ice a stud horse just to let lane get 2 ypc.

All im saying is Dooley keeps saying we have to get Neal more plays but it never happens. That tells me he's doing what he needs to do in practice but come game time his # is never called. So if he's not doing it in practice why put that out to the media, that's all im saying.
