The administration has been pushing Neal Down for a while now. Where have you guys been?

another sunbelt guy? i'd rather have Tee

You do realize Tee is gonna end up a coach for a SunBelt level school right? Tee may be better than Chad Morris but he’s not better than someone that has had actual success as a head coach.

Also think it’s funny all the love for Campbell but hate for Brohm. Brohm did better in his first year at Purdue than Campbell did at a comparable Iowa St, and funny everyone ignores Campbell’s 4 loses to average teams because he beat one top 5 and one top 15 team.

That fact that David Cutcliffe is a hotter name than Neal Brown on this board really astounds me. We've got some really dumb fans, unfortunately.

This.

The guy beat LSU this year and nearly beat Clemson last year.

He wouldn't have been anywhere near the top of my list, but he's a much better candidate than just about anyone people here are talking about.

I mean, Tee Martin? A guy who has only been a coordinator for a few years, and who isn't even allowed to call plays on third and long?

Kevin Steele? A career coordinator with mixed results?

Chad Morris? His record is 14-22. "But he is at SMU!" Yeah well, Neal Brown is at Troy and his record is 23-13.

This should be the hire at this point...I've been pumping him up for y'all since your coaching search began, this kid is a winner.

Brown and Norvell should be serious candidates at this point.

I was at the Troy - Clemson game last year and they kept the crowd scared the whole time.

Neal Brown needs a fair shake from VN. I feel Norvell, Morris, Brohm, Tee & Steele are getting that but somehow Brown is not.

Do our fans really think those guys would be better than Brown? At this point only Norvell is showing as much promise and even then you'd have to look at who came before him to really assess how how good he is or will be. The foundation was set with Fuente and Paxton Lynch and the transition was made practically seamless with Riley Ferguson. We have no idea what his offense will look like without a NFL-level gunslinger there, same goes for Fuente - he's reaping the benefits of Beamers recruits & foundation, plus we know he got really lucky with late addition Lynch - everyone missed on that kid and it wasn't until a state all-star game in (late?) December that his name really came on the scene - at that point most guys already had their QBs for the class or had been recruiting their guys for months prior.

I watched him play high school Football great athlete. My son plays for the same high school Neal played at. They are playing for their 8th state title tomorrow night. Neal is used to
winning. Won’t except nothing less. He needs a look.

Can I get banned for repeatedly bumping threads? At this point I'd take the ban if it meant getting more Vol fan talking about this guy. It's a crime that there are dozens of threads talking about a washed up Miles, an inexperienced Tee, Steele who won 25% of his games as a HC, etc over an up-and-comer winner like this guy. He's not a splash hire, but he is definitely more attractive than the options being thrown around daily on this board.

He appears to be good and is on the Leach coaching tree. Not 100 percent sure about his recruiting ties though. If his name is actually on the list, at this point I wouldn't have an issue with him.

This situation is so toxic, might as well get into a coach cheap, hope he works and not be saddled with a huge buyout in 3-5 years.

I'd take a young coach that can rebuild and is conservatively priced over a Les Miles.

Now if we can actually get a great, proven HC that is active I'm all for it.

From Wiki;

On January 12, 2010, Brown was announced as the offensive coordinator at Texas Tech under new Red Raiders head coach Tommy Tuberville. During the 2010 football season, the Red Raider offense performed well. During his tenure at Texas Tech, Brown perfected his NASCAR spread offense. The offense created by Brown focused on players running to the line immediately after the play and quickly snapping the ball before the defense could get set. The offense requires speed at every position to be run the way Brown envisions it. The focus of the offense was to snap the ball 8 seconds after the previous play. The 2010 Red Raiders ranked 15th in the country in total offense, 6th in passing offense, and 72nd in rushing offense.[1]

For his coaching performance during the 2011 41–38 upset victory over the then-ranked #3 Oklahoma Sooners, he was recognized by Rivals.com as National Coordinator of the Week.[2]

BTW he did not coach under Leach at TTech, it was Tuberville.

i'm down. get him. cheap and a exciting offensive. '18 is likely a lost season. might as well hire a guy and see what he can do in the worst situation. if brown can seemingly appear to right the ship through the gauntlet of next near then we have a coach. if he can't then we'll be where we are right now with out the last 5-10 days of embarrassment.

Absolutely agree. If the fans could settle down and not try to destroy every hire on the front end - Neal could be a terrific long term hire. Give a young man time to build a program - the Vols will not be a quick fix under any scenario. I like Neal Brown as well as Campbell at Iowa State. The difference is that Brown is an affordable hire and already working the Sec territory.

I can hear the "right now" generation with our new coach. First time we lkse or dont win tje SEC "_____ turned it around in year 3. We need a new coach" :thud:

Last week an analyst on Cowherd said hands down TN was a better job than TAM. They got Fisher as the result of a seamless process (at least to the outside observer.) FSU may get Taggart if they want him. We are starting threads with the phrase "would be a steal." It's so easy to see why TN doesn't compete anymore. Sometimes we all feel compelled to over-analyze these things. If we have the money to hire big, why don't we?
