NCSU presents 3 primary problems:
1. QB Glennon had a good 2011 (3,054, 31, 12) and is now a 5y Sr.
2. The OLine has as many starts as UT (105 and tied for 3rd FBS).
3. They have an All-Am CB -- Amerson.

On the other hand:
1. At Media Days, NCSU was picked 5th in the ACC, and 3rd in their division.
2. Glennon sat behind Russell Wilson and has about the same number of starts as Bray.
3. Two weeks after UT beat Cincy 45-23, Cincy demolished NCSU 44-14.
4. Amerson is not a Safety -- he'll cover only 1 of our 3 WRs and half the field.
5. NCSU averaged 3.0 yards per carry in 2011.
6. NCSU has had only 5 (FIVE) 4* recruits (ESPN) since 2007.
7. In Nov., they lost to BC (4-8), which was about as bad as our UK loss, although they had no major injuries.

They play a zone defense. You will not see Amerson man to man very often.

I say line up all 3 top receivers on one side and throw to Zach Rogers on the other... They will never know what hit them!!! lol jk ?

Hopefully, Zach will realize its a football that's been hitting him for the last 3 years and catch it. I hope he improves this year, he drives me nuts. If not, at least its his last year.:dance2:

Zone is difficult for any QB to read because it has more to do with confusion and less about individual payer's strengths and weaknesses. According to Dooley, Bray has become a great student of the game and should be improved in defense reading. Is he Peyton Manning, no, but I think we will see vast improvement. Zone defenses also alow for playmakers to get open in space. I look for Mychal Rivera and the run game to be very active in the begininng. This will destroy the zone if we can do it effectively. Then we hit them hard with the real weapons opening our second- fourth possessions.

I'm inclined to throw out any team's worst outing, and not use it in discussion of a team's worthiness. NC State's loss to Boston College does not tell us what kind of team they were or are, anymore than our loss to KY tells them how what kind of team we were or are.

Generally speaking, stars do carry some weight. Exceptions only prove the rule.

If you have 4 or 5 more guys with 4*s than the other team, it shouldn't make a difference.

But UT has about 30 more guys with 4 and 5 stars, including about 12 starters.

In the end, it should make a difference unless we get outcoached.

Then let's use the Cincy game.

Oh... Wait...

To most on VN, our 3*s will play way above their rating and show recruiting experts to be the fools that they are, while our opponent's 3* players wouldn't start for UT Martin.

It should be a fun night in the GA Dome!

Back on topic:

Here is what I see...

• Lost 3 of top 4 or 5 receivers, one of which was the TE. They accounted for a little over half of the TD catches. So their QB will be looking at a lot of new receivers. Should limit him somewhat especially early on.

• They do have a good RB returning to help balance the offense

• They lost all 3 starting LBs, one of which was equally as important as All American CB (Amerson) to their team.

• They do have a bunch of seniors on the team.

• It seemed to me they played a very weak schedule last year

I like our chances! I think Neal is a little ball security away from being a 1000 yard rusher in this league.

NC State spring game coming on ESPNU in case anyone gives a crap.

FYI, I'm on the west coast so I don't know if the scheduling is the same.

I hope no one is overlooking how NC St closed out 2011, impressive wins against arch rival NC and highly ranked Clemson with a bowl win against Louisville. They will arrive in Atlanta with some confidence... the kind of confidence you earn.

On paper Tennessee will have more talent on the field, but this NC St team (or most of it) has proven it can beat talented teams. All to their advantage that they catch UT early, before that potentially high powered offense has time to fully jell.

Tennessee should beat these guys, but it may have to come on a big play late.
